Greetings from your Community BoardMessage from the ChairKia ora koutou, Highlights from our latest meetingOur Community Board met on Tuesday 17 November. After hearing from four residents, we also decided to extend the length of no stopping restrictions on Parklands Drive recommended by staff in order to improve safety. Safety upgrades on Dyers Pass RdWork to improve the safety of Dyers Pass Road will begin shortly. Christchurch City Council has awarded Higgins Construction a contract to widen the windy road in places and to install three kilometres of guardrail. Work continues at Brougham/Selwyn intersectionWe're replacing underground stormwater pipes located at this intersection because they are old and have reached the end of their useful life. Construction is well underway, with 25 to 30 per cent of the work already completed. The stormwater main has been installed on the southeast side of Brougham Street, along with lateral pipes at Somerset Crescent West. We expect to complete all work by March/April 2021, subject to good site conditions and weather. Keep your cool at the pool this summerWith Christchurch’s outdoor public pools now open for the summer, pool users are being urged to respect each other and the lifeguards on duty. To respect other pool users, people should keep left when lane swimming, let faster swimmers past, and wear appropriate swimwear. New access card to support people with disabilitiesChristchurch City Council is partnering with the Hāpai Foundation to help eliminate the barriers faced by people with disabilities. Smokefree areas to become vapefree tooAreas designated by Christchurch City Council as smokefree will soon become vapefree as well. The Council has voted to amend its Smokefree Public Places Policy to include vaping.
