Getting and giving feedback — the fast way to lift writing quality

How do your people feel about giving and getting feedback on their and their colleagues' writing? Encouraging a culture in which feedback is welcome is guaranteed to lift the overall quality of writing at your place.

We love helping our clients to learn the art (and the benefits) of effective peer review. Ask us to deliver a workshop for your team or create a workable peer review system for your managers. Talk to us about small-group 'roundtable' reviews or more formal document assessments and audits. Every which way you look at it, feedback is gold!

We loved our very humble Judy's blogpost on this very topic

The Advanced Reading workshop just got even better — and it's all about technology

This internationally successful course has stood the test of time for more than 30 years, and has now leapt into the electronic age (about time!).

Book on the September Advanced Reading workshop and use the new e-reader, a brilliant app that works on any tablet or laptop. Bring your own device so you can practise to your heart's content later, or use one of ours on the day.

Our Chief Executive, Lynda Harris, loves the reading workshop. Maybe it's because it was the first ever course she delivered in a fledgling business that was to become Write.

'I've always loved the reading workshop,' says Lynda, 'because as a trainer, you get to help people push their own limits and achieve more than they thought possible.'

Advanced Reading trainer, Angie Collins, agrees. 'It's a fabulously rewarding workshop to teach. And now we have the e-reader, it will be even more fun and relevant for today's lifestyle.'

'Our Futures' in text, image, and video

This tweet made me think about my recent blog post on infographics. It's from the Royal Society of New Zealand, and it shows a highlight from their report 'Our Futures'.

Impress your incoming minister with your briefing

Whatever the outcome of the election in September, some government departments will be briefing Ministers who are new to the work of the department.

You need to give incoming ministers a good understanding of your organisation, of current policy and programmes, and of decisions they will need to make. And you need to make your briefing document easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to act on.

Make sure the briefing:

• is structured in a way that will be logical to ministers

• is written in language that busy ministers can easily understand on first reading
• is presented in a way that is easy to read

• contains only information that a minister needs, and nothing else.
