The wait is over! The best place to get into golf ACADEMY START DATE - After a long-enforced lay off, we are pleased to announce the return of the Royal Mid-Surrey Academy programme. The volume and demand for golf from our members has been very high since the return of golf on 29th March but we have some capacity for an academy. We have completed six previous academies over the past few years, with many participants progressing to become members of Royal Mid-Surrey, obtaining handicaps and immersing themselves into club life. Have you previously played or play occasionally at a range or short course and are now looking to take the next step? Are you looking for a new outdoor sport that keeps you active and allows you to visit some amazing places? Are you looking to improve your golf and meet other golfers along the way? If the answer to any of these questions is YES, then the academy at Royal Mid-Surrey is the perfect pathway to get you into playing regular golf and improving your game. The previous academy programmes have been so successful that golf club membership is currently full with a waitlist in place for new members and waiting times of over 1 year. This term, the golf club have asked us to limit the Academy membership to a capacity of 30 spaces. We are offering 30 places in order of interest being registered over the past 12 months or more. Priority is offered to those who have done one term of Academy, followed in order by enquiry date. Please see more details below and of course feel free to contact us with any questions: EMAIL: proshop@rmsgc.co.uk Who is it for? Men and ladies who are new to the game, occasional golfers or lapsed golfers who are interested in joining a golf club but need a helping hand with reaching the required standard. We recognise that joining a golf club, particularly one with our 125 year history can be a very intimidating prospect if you are reasonably new to the game. We want to take the intimidation away by improving your golf and confidence and introducing you to all aspects of golf club life. Why join the RMS Academy? We meet a lot of people who intend to take their golf a bit more seriously but do not know how to do it or feel a bit intimidated at taking their game to the next level. If you want to get off the driving range/par 3 course and start practicing and playing on 18 hole golf courses, then this is ideal. Our coaches are all PGA Professionals who have been trained to the highest level but more importantly they are all very pleasant and will make learning fun and light-hearted. The clubhouse, golf courses and facilities speak for themselves when you visit but above all WE CARE about your golf. If you have been meaning to take the plunge to improve or get into golf, the academy is the perfect opportunity to do so. What’s involved? The academy is a six month programme that provides intensive coaching along with regular get-togethers, and supervised access to the golf course with the Pro Staff at Royal Mid-Surrey looking after all your golfing needs. The following is included:
What are the costs involved? The cost for the six month programme is £1,200. When are the group lessons? Your 13 private lessons can be booked at your own convenience and we ask you to choose one option for group sessions for the duration of the six month academy programme. As mentioned, group sessions occur fortnightly on the following days and times starting on the week of Monday 9th August: Tuesday - 9-10am Wednesday - 9-10am Thursday - 9-10am or 2-3pm Sunday - 9.30-10.30am What happens after 6 months? Everybody is beginning from a different starting point and golfers learn at different speeds. With the commitment and regularity of our academy we are very confident that everybody will improve and develop their golf to a higher level. Some will be ready to apply for memberships at a golf club like Royal Mid-Surrey and join a waiting list. Others will be delighted to be more confident to 'pay and play' at available golf courses and others might like to do another academy programme with us if we run it again next year. Need equipment? The last time we held an academy we had several pupils progress to membership. Here's what current Royal Mid-Surrey members have to say about their experience taking part in our previous academies: Cristina (current handicap 20.5) "The 2018 Academy was an amazing introduction to golf! At the age of 50, I discovered a love for the sport while learning all the fundamentals correctly from the start. All the RMS pros are great teachers, constantly encouraging and correcting, even when I felt I was going backwards. With the support of the academy, I was able to obtain a first handicap and become a member of RMS in 2019. After 3 years, I am playing off a handicap of 21. A special thanks to Alice Hiluta for being such a big part of my golf journey – we are so fortunate to have such a great female pro at RMS! I am a huge fan and can highly recommend the academy to anyone who wants to learn and improve their golf." Kate (current handicap 22.8) "I joined the academy at RMS in 2017. I'd always wanted to start playing golf but didn't really know the best way to go about it. It can be quite intimidating to venture out onto a golf course when you don't know how to play or understand the rules and etiquette. The academy provided a fabulous introduction to the game. The teaching was excellent and the professionals were unfailing in their support and encouragement. To learn with other beginners also meant that it was fun. Best of all, the academy provided me with the opportunity to progress to a level where I was able to achieve a handicap and become a member of the club. I can honestly say it's one of the best things I've done." Greg (current handicap 20.5) "I spent most of my life on the fringes of golf: always interested but never really giving it a go; playing once or twice a year with friends or when invited on a social; always wishing I’d had some lessons, or more time, or a magic stick. When my 50th birthday rolled around I decided to give it a serious go. I was lucky enough to join the Academy at RMS, and it literally changed my life. I am now a committed golf addict, and it was the Academy that got me there. The format allowed you to meet almost all of the pros, benefit from group and individual lessons, and use the practice facilities and the course at certain times, which meant running into other golfers and members in a natural way. My game improved greatly and was eventually good enough to join. For the first time in my life I have a handicap, and I am lucky enough to have joined a great club, full of nice people and friendly, excellent pros and staff." Mhairi (current handicap 22.8) "I signed up for the RMS academy in winter 2018 as a beginner, and it has been a fantastic pathway to gaining a handicap and becoming a full member of the club. The combination of group and individual lessons worked really well and was a great way to make connections with other golfers new to the game. The professionals are all very skilled coaches and also put you at your ease during lessons, whatever your level of golf. I am now playing golf several times a week and loving it. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t have joined this fantastic club had I not done the academy first!" Jo (current handicap 28.0) "The academy was a fantastic introduction to Golf, the combination of private and group lessons was excellent and it was so good to meet other beginners in same situation to play golf." |
