Click here November 2021 Impact Newsletter CPC Hosts Inaugural AAPI Reception at On November 6th, CPC organized the first ever Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Reception at the Somos El Futuro Conference! Held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the conference aims to unite Latinx communities to make transformative impacts on socio-economic and civic statuses across New York State and beyond. Somos brings together 800 city, state, and federal elected officials as well as nonprofit, corporate, union, and government leaders. EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong. CPC and Essex Market Partner to Bring Healthy Recipes to Seniors and Families On November 9th, CPC and Essex Market co-hosted a cooking workshop with the residents of Hong Ning Housing for the Elderly. CPC also partnered with Essex Market to provide a series of workshops for families of our early childhood centers and afterschool programs. CPC Nan Shan Senior Center Hosts COVID-19 Vaccination Events Throughout November, CPC Nan Shan Senior Center has had COVID-19 vaccination events to support our seniors. More than 50 community members received their COVID-19 vaccine booster shot in partnership with Mannings Pharmacy, and later this month the center hosted an event on viral PCR and antibody testing. FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age. Technology Workshops Bridge Digital Divide CPC Brooklyn Senior Services is excited to offer technology workshops to community members. Providing technology workshops will enable community members to access information and resources digitally as well as receive services through different video conferencing platforms. CPC Community Members Celebrate ThanksgivingThanks to the generosity of our partners, CPC community members across Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn enjoyed a Thanksgiving holiday full of turkey and gratitude. Some highlights include classroom activities at our early childhood centers, lunch for seniors, turkey raffle, and more! Chinatown Receives $20 Million from New York State On November 10th, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that Chinatown will receive $20 million in funding as the New York City Region winner of the fifth round of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). Chinatown's successful proposal was a collaborative effort by Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC), Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE), Asian American Federation, Chinatown Manpower Project, Chinatown Partnership/Chinatown BID, Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, Chung Pak LDC, and Think Chinatown. CPC Calls on Governor and Legislative Leaders to Reform Home Care CPC continues its advocacy on home care reform by calling on New York State Governor Hochul, Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Assembly Speaker Heastie to end 24-hour shifts and raise home care worker wages. Rita Kurniawan Joins CPC as Director of Housing and Real Estate CPC is excited to announce that Rita Kurniawan has joined as Director of Housing and Real Estate. She will be responsible for overseeing CPC’s affordable housing and real estate portfolio, ensuring effective strategic, operational, and fiscal management of CPC’s wholly-owned subsidiaries and rental properties. CPC Hong Ning Residents Receive Booster Vaccine Dose On December 2nd, more than 130 residents of Hong Ning Housing for the Elderly received their booster vaccine. The vaccine, screening, and observation was provided on site so residents did not have to travel. We fully appreciate the collaboration with Mannings Pharmacy, and we also thank and recognize TUC Management for setting this up!
For the month of November, CPC participated in a global campaign called Giving Tuesday with #BrooklynGives. #BrooklynGives is powered by the Brooklyn Community Foundation and aims to unite nonprofits in support of social change on Giving Tuesday, the biggest single day of giving each year.
