AMAZONIA
There is not a word of dialogue in this amazing movie (unless you can talk to the animals). Animals are the heroes and villains of this exotic adventure set in the Amazon jungle. Best described as a documentary-drama, it follows the adventures of a circus-trained capuchin monkey which survives a jungle plane crash, and is forced to adapt to life in the wild. Filmed over 18 months in the Amazon, this is no Disney nature film – the dangers are real, from trapdoor spiders to prowling jaguars to predatory eagles. The baby capuchin monkey is one of the most expressive, natural child actors you’ve ever seen. The ravishingly shot wildlife safari footage and lush orchestral score will wow parents as much as the kids. A great international Festival success.

SONG OF THE SEA
Some of the world’s most adventurously entertaining cinema is being created outside of the “live action” arena. If you want some real cinematic magic at BOFA 2015, don’t miss this enchanting Irish animated film about a pair of siblings and a piece of Celtic folklore that turns out to be true. Song of the Sea
comes from Tomm Moore, co-director of the Oscar-nominated The Secret of Kells. Like that 2009 film, this one’s hand-drawn in the traditional animation style. Ben, a young boy with a single dad, is tasked with looking after little sister Saoirse, who turns out to be half-selkie, a mythological creature who’s a seal in the ocean but human on land. What follows is their odyssey through country, city and various supernatural landscapes to find their way home. Moore’s film is alive to the world in a way that challenges, and sometimes even defies, adult understanding. See it and feel four years old again.

MEET THE FRACKMAN
The acclaimed documentary Frackman will open BOFA 2015 with a special screening on Wednesday night, November 4. Frackman
was produced by BOFA’s own Artistic Director Trish Lake. The unlikely alliance of Allan Jones and Bob Brown both say that every Australian should see this film. Trish Lake, Richard Todd and Dayne Prazky, producer, director and star of Frackman will be BOFA’s guests on opening night. In 2014 BOFA's Big Picture Discussion was on fracking and featured the Frackman film team, including its central character, Dayne Pratzky, with moderator Paul Barclay of Radio National who broadcast the discussion in early 2015 to an audience of more than 500,000. Since then the grass-roots campaign for Frackman, a movie-length documentary about ordinary Australians caught up in a multinational ‘gas rush’, went viral on social media, with views of the trailer on Facebook alone reaching one million in the first ten days. Frackman
has also won Best Film at Byron Bay Film Festival, and Best Feature Film (Factual) at the Western Australian Screen Awards. Its central character, Dayne Pratzky, has become a media superstar, and hundreds of individuals and community groups have requested to screen the film in their region using the “cinema on demand” platform Tugg. The trailer has been viewed in more than 30 countries, and even has some intrepid viewers in Antarctica. Thousands have joined in a lively commentary on the site. A decade ago, Dayne Pratzky was a 30-year-old, pig-shooting, diesel-driving construction worker who bought 100 hectares of scrubby land near Tara, in Queensland's Western Downs, hoping to improve it and sell it on. And then one day, a coal seam gas (CSG) company rolled down his driveway. Pratzky's six-year battle to stop CSG mining on his land is the subject of this film.
Dayne Pratzky, Richard Todd and Trish Lake will lead a discussion after the film.
