Meet our Board Members

Jim McCarten - General Manager of The Gardens Mall

Jim McCartenJim McCarten has been the General Manager of The Gardens Mall since its opening in 1989 and a Board Member of the Palm Beach Gardens Police Foundation since 2011. A native of Washington DC, he is a graduate of the University of Maryland Smith School of Business

Jim and his wife Kim, along with their two children are long time residents of Palm Beach Gardens and are very proud of the Police services they receive - both at work and at home.

A strong believer in the concept that "It takes a community effort to keep us safe" Jim is always available and volunteering his services to the Police Foundation.

He is a Board Member of the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce and NorthPAC and is active in the Boy Scouts of America and The Arc of Palm Beach County.

In our last newsletter we introduced you to Board Director Charlie Gusmano. In the coming months we intend to introduce you to our other Board Members



Police Foundation Scholarship Awardees Named

The Police Foundation's Annual Scholarship program saw numerous applications submitted by some outstanding young adults. And as a result, the Scholarship Committee had a difficult task of selecting the three individuals who would receive the $1,500 grants.

Police Foundation Sponsors 9/11 Remembrance Essay Contest with Palm Beach Gardens Fire-Rescue

Partnering with Palm Beach Gardens Fire-Rescue, the Police Foundation has announced a 9/11 Essay Contest that will award cash prizes to top authors.

The prizes will be awarded as part of the Annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Christ Fellowship Church and based on the writer's reflections on the terrorist events of September 11, 2001.

"Operation Dine Out" Now Under Way in Palm Beach Gardens

Operation Dine OutThe Police Foundation, in cooperation with six leading Palm Beach Gardens restaurants, is sponsoring "Operation Dine Out" during the months of June, July and August.

The participating restaurants, Ironwood Steak and Seafood, Talay Thai, Garden City Café, Spoto's Oyster Bar, Vic & Angelos and Brio Tuscan Grille, will each be donating a portion of their Tuesday night's business to the Police Foundation

Police Explorers Head to State Competition in Melbourne

State CompetitionEleven of our Palm Beach Gardens Police Explorers, who won first place overall in the “2015 Law Enforcement Regional Challenge,” are now headed for the Statewide competition in Melbourne, FL.

Over 40 Explorer Posts will compete in events that test their physical ability, judgement, and knowledge of police tactics and procedures. The top 5 Posts in Florida will receive awards during ceremonies at the end of the competiton, and Palm Beach Gardens has most always been amongst those top Posts. We wish them well and are quite hopefull that they will again be amongst that upper tier.

Explorer Academy teaches youth many aspects of life

Boot Camp The Law Enforcement Explorer Academy is a week-long residential career education program providing Police Explorers with practical, hands-on basic training.

Held at Camp Tanah Keeta in Tequesta, 14 of our Palm Beach Gardens Police Explorers will be challenged with exercises in Team Building, Leadership, Respect for Authority and Citizenship and will train in various aspects of Law Enforcement Operations and Procedures.

Over 100 young adults from 6 local Police Departments and their Advisors will participate in the 6 day event followed by a graduation and awards ceremony.


Despite a plethora of shopping destinations, retail theft is on the decline in Palm Beach Gardens
