Market Access Days: Shifting towards a value-based access model

The Market Access Days organised by MedTech Europe on 15 and 16 June hosted important discussions with corporate members on the initiatives and effects of moving towards a value-based healthcare system. Ways forward for the MedTech Industry within this transition process were also discussed.


MedTech Europe in high gear for transition to new Regulations

Following the publication of the in vitro diagnostic medical device Regulation (IVDR) and the medical device Regulation (MDR) by the European Commission on 5 May 2017, the Regulations have entered into force on 26 May 2017. Now begins a transition period of three years for medical devices and five years for IVDs.

Berlin Declaration of the G20 Health Ministers

On 19-20 May, G20 Health Ministers gathered in Berlin to discuss global health in advance to the G20 summit in July. The conclusions of their meeting were captured in the form of a Declaration “Together Today for a Healthy Tomorrow”.

 

GMTCC 2017: Conference material now available

Our 2017 Global MedTech Compliance Conference (GMTCC) held on 3-4 June in Amsterdam gathered about 300 participants. The event featured thought-provoking presentations and lively discussions within the healthcare and compliance community.

 

MEAT VBP tool and guidelines available for evaluation

The updated versions of the Most Economically Advantageous Tender (MEAT) Value Based Procurement (VBP) tool and guidelines developed by MedTech Europe in partnership with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and procurement experts are now available for evaluation and comments. 2017 Team-NB survey on medical devices

On 14 April, Team-NB, the European Association for Medical Devices of Notified Bodies, published the data collected in their now annual survey on medical devices. The results of the survey, available here, show that there is a general decline in the total number of valid CE certificates, a significant increase in the number of withdrawn certificates and a general trend in the increase of the number of full time employees. Team-NB currently has 22 notified body members; active in both the medical devices and in-vitro diagnostic medical devices fields.

 

Solution offers in the medtech industry – the diamond of successful monetization

From the medtech sector’s growth figures and revenue outlook, you would assume the industry’s success is guaranteed. Across the world, the population is aging, pushing up the demand for medical devices. However, as we dig a little deeper into market trends, we see that a positive revenue outlook doesn’t necessarily result in profitable growth.
