lyndon blue: live reviews
ABSOLUTE BOYS @ THE BIRD, SUNDAY APRIL 15
I’m fresh – or rather, dusty, mellow and crusty – off the back of my annual Fairbridge Folk Festival pilgrimage, the ochre-red Pinjarra dirt still clinging like a rufous moss to my boots. The Bird – cosy and clean and dense with quaint contrivances – is a far cry from the sun-sprayed bucolic expanses that encircle Fairbridge village. Still, here is a place you can be true to your nature: unruffled by the world, sinking impulsively into the ether like it’s a pleasantly scented spa bath. Under the shade of a coolabah tree, four of us settle down to melt into the
BILLABONG, but that is something that decorum and general cosmic magnetism prevents me from devoting many words to. Soon, in any case, the flickering light that skates around the room begins to find more bodies, more weekend-wearied yet smiling eyes to dart into.

I remember seeing an episode of “Nip/Tuck” years ago in which the plastic surgeons were asked to perform some cosmetic surgery on a gorilla...

Tribute Night: New work by Patrick Miller
at ok gallery, northbridge
In his first solo exhibition Patrick Miller presents a body of work exploring the multilayered history of light: as a physical force, a cultural phenomenon and a philosophical proposition.
Tribute Night features a series of pieces that sit at the nexus of art and design and science and sentiment, shelves, tables and wall hangings that examine both literal and figurative illumination and reflection. From the proto-scientific alchemists in search of the philosopher's stone to the proliferation of contemporary designers producing countless boutique lamps, each of Miller's elegant, minimal and meticulously handmade objects is a dedication to those that have lit the way and allowed us to take the light home.

Talking Head
at limelite theatre, wanneroo
An award-winning series of solo pieces by a famed British playwright, actor and author is coming to Limelight Theatre this April.
Directed by Gwen Browning, Talking Heads was originally written by Alan Bennett for BBC-TV in 1988 and has since found a new lease of life on stage.
Talking Heads has been described as a classic of contemporary drama, universally hailed for its combination of razor-sharp wit and deeply felt humanity.
The Limelight Theatre production features three monologues:
• Bed Among the Lentils, where a vicar's wife discovers some semblance of happiness with an Indian shop owner.
• A Chip in the Sugar, focusing on a man's life that begins to unravel when he discovers his aging mother has rekindled an old flame.
• Her Big Chance, exploring what happens when a young, naive actress gains a part in a German film – which is not quite what she thought.
Talking Heads plays at 8pm, April 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28. Tickets are $19 adults, $16 concession.
Book on 9467 9545 between 9am and midday, Monday to Friday, or online HERE. Limelight Theatre is located on Civic Drive, Wanneroo.
