December 2018 Tips for helping your student during final exams time
'Tis the season! As we welcome the chill of December and the waning days of the semester, your student will soon finish classes and begin focusing on final exams and papers. Finals can be a stressful time for students and your child may reach out to you to express their stress, and at times, even may seem upset, panicked, or anxious in a way that you have not heard before. What can you do? Take heart: your words of wisdom can offer comfort and be a guide through their final days of the semester. The key is to help ease their minds so they can complete their assignments and leave for winter break ready to enjoy their time away.
From our years of working with students both inside and outside of the classroom, here is a list of suggestions to help
you help your student: We hope you find these suggestions helpful. Barnard students are more than capable, and they will make it through finals - they just usually need some compassionate reminders of how great they are. Best Wishes, Natalie Friedman and Alicia Lawrence, Co-Interim Deans of the College
Mary Joan Murphy, Executive Director of Student Health and Wellness
Taking NotesTitle IX Regulations Barnard College takes allegations of sexual misconduct on campus very seriously and we continue to follow the federal government's proposed changes to federal
laws regarding this issue. On November 16th, the U.S. Department of Education released proposed regulations that would govern how colleges and universities investigate and adjudicate allegations of sexual misconduct on campus. Please be assured that Barnard College remains strongly committed to providing a safe environment for your student that is free from violence. If you'd like to read the message we sent to students regarding these proposed regulations, please visit Title IX Regulations
message.
Midnight Breakfast Each year, Barnard students celebrate several traditions that have been a part of the College's culture for many years. One of the best-known is Midnight Breakfast, when Barnard administrators and staff serve breakfast to our hungry students the night before finals
begin. Sponsored by the McIntosh Activities Council, this semester's event will be Thursday, Dec. 13!
