HAVE YOUR SAY!

We are currently conducting a national review of Youth Arts training. By taking the time to complete the following questionnaire, you are helping us to build a real understand about your career development needs/wishes and how the sector is currently shaped.

To say thank you, we are entering those of you who leave an email address into a draw for a free place on the upcoming PROTECT Conference - in Manchester and London. Two places are up for grabs at each date.

Thank you in advance for your time and we look forward to sharing with you the facts from like-minded individuals.

Fill in the survey and help shape Youth Arts training!

16-25? Have your voice heard!

This month, the new 16-25 section of the Artswork website was launched! As part of this, young people are invited to submit their own blogs about their experiences - be it working in the arts, or even just aspiring to do so - it's time for us to hear from those at the heart of our work - young people!

If you have anything you'd like to write about, or you'd like to find out more about schemes available for 16-25 year olds, find out more here

Government Announce Youth Engagement Fund Partnerships

The Youth Engagement Fund is a £16 million payment by results fund. It aims to help disadvantaged young people aged 14 to 17 to participate and succeed in education or training. This will improve their employability, reduce their long term dependency on benefits, and reduce their likelihood of offending.

The funding will be provided through social impact bonds (SIBs) with investors funding innovative initiatives to prevent young people from becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training). Government will only pay if the initiatives are successful and lead to positive outcomes. The Youth Engagement Fund is jointly funded by the Cabinet Office, Department of Work and Pensions and the Ministry of Justice. Read about how social impact bonds have helped young people in East London.

The Youth Engagement Fund will be awarded through a competitive bidding process over 2 stages: the initial application form and then the invitation to tender for shortlisted bidders. The initial application stage, explained in the prospectus, is now closed. Shortlisted bidders have been asked to tender by 10am on 28 November 2014.

Drama Schools aren't the only route to professional acting success, says The Stage's Susan Elkin

"People (usually the principals of drama schools) often tell me the only way to become a professional actor is to do a three-year course at one of Drama UK’s 18 accredited schools. And of course that works for many – the Dominic Coopers, Anna Maxwell Martins and David Haigs of this world anyway."
