Greetings from your Community BoardMessage from the ChairKia ora everyone, Highlights from our latest meetingOur Community Board met on Monday 6 July. Some highlights of our meeting included receiving minutes from recent Reserve Management Committee Meetings in Diamond Harbour and Lyttelton. These Committees meet regularly to make decisions concerning the management of nature reserves around Banks Peninsula and do a wonderful job maintaining our green spaces for the wider community to enjoy. We also spoke to staff about the need to remove some trees as part of the upcoming programme of road safety improvement works along Dyers Pass Road. Council staff have assured the Board that trees will only be removed if absolutely necessary when
carrying out these improvement works. We also approved a request to formalise an existing off street 90 degree mobility parking space at 58 Oxford Street in Lyttelton. Volunteers go with flow to share Orton Bradley heritageA restored 19th century waterwheel – along with a group of hardy volunteers – is driving interest in a popular heritage park overlooking Lyttelton Harbour. Have your say on Diamond Harbour parking restrictionsParking at Diamond Harbour Wharf has become increasingly busy. To help with congestion, we are proposing parking restrictions at the wharf car park and at Stoddart Point car park. Renovation for Lyttelton Rec Centre multi-purpose meeting roomThe Lyttelton Recreation Centre now has a new multi- purpose room on the Centre's mezzanine floor. Local architect Hamish Shaw provided the design for the room, with a goal of creating a multi-purpose space for Centre users. Hamish has already completed the wider visioning work on the building as part of Project Lyttelton’s first year’s plan of activating the Centre. The room has new fixed glazing facing the gymnasium and new glass sliding doors as its main entrance. For any enquiries about the meeting room, please contact Nathan Mauger, Lyttelton Recreation Centre Manager on 021 1119366 or reccentremanager@lyttelton.net.nz Brittan Terrace - Slope Stabilization WorksChristchurch City Council contractors are installing a new retaining wall to support Brittan Terrace. Call for locals to become Penguin ProtectorsThe next time you’re walking around Naval Point, you may notice one of these Lyttelton Port Company (LPC) signs, a reminder to keep your dog on a leash in the area. From July, kororā/white-flippered penguins will begin nesting in the seawall around Lyttelton Port and surrounding areas, so it’s really important that we work together to protect these precious little birds. This work is being undertaken by Lyttleton Port Company in line with the Whaka-Ora Healthy Harbour’s vision to enhance the health of the harbour.
