Downtown Employee Appreciation Week update Thanks to everyone who joined in the Downtown Employee Appreciation Week festivities. Hundreds came downtown to enjoy a variety of free events and giveaways. Here's how it all went down: Monday - Downtown employees enjoyed free coffee from The Buzz, Ground Floor Cafe, Coco Flow, First Edition an d Kamp's 1910. Participants were entered to win $50 gift card from B.C. Clark and the winner was Tim Whang. Congrats, Tim! Tuesday - We had nearly 200 people complete our downtown trivia contest. We're happy to announce that Brandon Jones is the only participant to submit a perfect score! Our second place winners are: Renee Rosanelli, Colin Stocksen, Phi Nguyen, Sean Hickey, Larry Johannes, John Riesenberg, Becky Mitchell, Ashlea Briggs, and Rachel Barber. From our top-scoring participants, we randomly selected 2 additional people to win lunch with 3 of their coworkers at the Museum Cafe. Congratulations, Brandon, John and Colin! Just to thank everyone for participating (regardless of score), we threw everyone's name into a hat to select a random winner of a $50 gift card to Rawhide. The winner is Linh Sasser. Congrats, Linh! Wednesday - Downtown employees enjoyed a picnic on the Grand Lawn of the Myriad Gardens, bingo games, prize giveaways and free Pinkitzel cupcakes. The Spy FM's Ferris O'Brien and Fox 25's Liz Dueweke were our guest celebrity bingo callers for the afternoon. Thurday - Local band, Hook, came to the Chase Plaza to provide some afternoon entertainment. The DOKC staff were on site to sign up raffle participants and distribute cool sunglasses. Friday - The party in Leadership Square attracted nearly 1,000 visitors, who came to enjoy free snacks from Abuelo's, giveaways from DOKC and the All-Sports Association, free chair massages, and entertainment from a live DJ. This week we contacted the raffle winners via email and gave away over 100 prizes. Check out DowntownOKC.com to see a few pictures of the event. RedHawks Field at Bricktown gets a new nameBaseball season returns to Oklahoma City tomorrow, Apr. 5, as the RedHawks celebrate their opening day and take on the Memphis Redbirds at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available online at Ticketmaster.com. Downtown Dash online registration now open Night time is the right time to visit downtown Oklahoma City and take part in the 4th annual Downtown Dash. These unique evening 10K and 5K races take place on June 2 and offer a race unlike most. It's the city's only night race that leads you through the heart of the city with spectacular up-close views of the downtown skyline. The Downtown Dash is presented by St. Anthony Hospital, where the races will start and finish. Online registration for the Downtown Dash is now open. Myriad Gardens events celebrate springThe arrival of spring means a revival of foliage on the grounds of the Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City, but the bustling growth of plant life isn’t the only thing happening on the 17-acre urban oasis. A delight for the senses awaits visitors in every area of the Gardens. The public is invited to the following celebrations of sites, scents and sounds: Tropical Color Sensation - Ongoing through mid-to late-April Spring into Color - Ongoing through mid-to late-April Myriad Botanical Gardens’ Plant & Garden Sale - Apr. 5 - 7, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunshine Celebration & Easter Egg Hunt - Apr. 7, 10 a.m. - Noon These events are only a few of many being offered at the Myriad Botanical Gardens throughout the month of April. OKC Philharmonic to perform side-by-side with the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra The premier educational event of the season, the annual "Side by Side" concert of the OKC Philharmonic on Apr. 11 features young musicians from the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra performing side-by-side with the professional musicians. Maestro Levine has also selected two young musicians to make their Philharmonic debut at this performance. Cody Byrum, cellist, and Bret Patterson, flutist, were selected from the winners of the Music Olympics competition to perform. General admission tickets are $10 and can be purchased on the Civic Center Music Hall website.
Drop-in art at the OKCMOA Be a part of the Oklahoma City Museum of Art's guest artists series on Saturdays from 1 - 4 p.m. as they help families to create extraordinary works of art inspired by the Museum’s collection, exhibitions, and special occasions throughout the year. No advance registration is required for you and your children to drop in and make and take a unique creation home with you! Drop-in Art is free with paid museum admission. Sunbeam's 1st annual supply drive to benefit downtown schoolSunbeam Family Services has served Oklahoma’s most vulnerable citizens for over 100 years by providing care for the poor - and they're hosting their first annual supply drive over the next several weeks. Among the many organizations they benefit is downtown OKC's Emerson Alternative High School. Spring is the best time to clean out your closets and pantries. Many of the items needed are inexpensive such as dish soap and hand sanitizer. You can get a full list of needed items by contacting Sunbeam. Myriad Gardens presents free brown bag lunch seriesThe Myriad Botanical Gardens' new Brown Bag Lunch Series kicked off last month as manager and gardening expert Allan Storjohann gave an informative talk about adding color to your garden landscape and keeping it going year round. Presented by the volunteers of the Myriad Botanical Gardens, the series, which will feature monthly guest speakers on a variety of garden-related topics, will be held in the Dean A. McGee Center, Terrace Room on the lower level of the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory, (301 W. Reno). Admission is free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to bring a sack lunch. Upcoming speakers include: Apr. 12--Myriad Botanical Gardens executive director, Maureen Heffernan, will talk about native plants and show some of her favorite native plants for home gardens. May 10--Myriad Gardens Foundation Executive Director, Maureen Heffernan, will discuss the exciting, new plans and programs in the works at the Gardens. June 14--Jeannetta Cooper, with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture’s Plant Protection Program, will discuss plants and the invasive pests that destroy them. July 12--Kamala Gamble – Kam’s Cookery August 9--Brian Dougherty, with the Oklahoma City Community Foundation’s Mary Annis Boys Fund, dedicated to supporting the improvement and beautification of parks and public lands in the OKC area, will discuss successful and sustainable tree varieties for Central Oklahoma. Visitors who wish to attend the Brown Bag Lunch are asked to enter the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory through the Visitors’ Center on the south end of the building.
