OPEN HOUSE + HARVEST FESTIVAL + CONNECTEDNESS Breakwater is an intentional, inclusive community made up of dynamic educators and families that together engage students to thrive academically, contribute to society and lead wholehearted lives. Our annual Open House is a time when we look forward to making new friends and the community Harvest Festival that follows provides a cherished opportunity to celebrate together. Our founder El Costa understood the value of community and connectedness. In an interview with El (click below) she is asked what the essence of Breakwater is - without hesitation she answers, "One word: Love." THANKS-GIVING + CHARACTER (DEEP DIVE IN GRADES 5/6) "Gratitude is a sort of laughter of the heart that comes about after some surprising kindness." (David Brooks) We are all used to the idea that learning can improve our minds. However, we may not think as much about an equally important idea - that understanding our own character, and the fact that we all have strengths of character and character traits with which we struggle, allows us to know who we are and how our attitudes impact our lives. One especially compelling trait is gratitude. Why does gratitude matter? Read about it and grade 5/6's discoveries.
