Click here September 2021 Impact Newsletter CPC Celebrates the Mid-Autumn FestivalThe Mid-Autumn Festival is a culturally significant holiday celebrated by Chinese, Vietnamese, and other Asian communities. CPC community members enjoyed annual Mid-Autumn Festival activities including celebratory gatherings and hundreds of mooncakes. Many thanks to our donors, supporters, and partners in making the festival a special one. EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong. CPC School-Age Child Care Centers and Afterschool Programs Re-Open for Fall CPC School-Age Child Care Centers at PS 2, PS 20, PS 124, PS 130, PS 153, and Chrystie Street, as well as our high-school afterschool programs and CPC Beacon Community Center at IS220 in Brooklyn re-opened for in-person programming on September 21. CPC Early Childhood Centers Kick Off Programs for Children Ages 0-4 CPC's six early childhood centers began fall programming with the start of the school year on September 13. CPC serves over 310 children in our early childhood centers. FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age. CPC Brooklyn Community Center Hosts Free Flu Vaccination On September 24, CPC Brooklyn Community Services partnered with Walgreens Pharmacy to provide flu vaccinations to community members. All vaccinations are completely free, regardless of insurance status. Yellow Whistle Distribution at Hong Ning Housing for the ElderlyOn August 12, staff and Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) interns at Hong Ning Housing for the Elderly distributed over 300 whistles and hand sanitizers to residents and their home care workers. COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENTWe empower New Yorkers to represent and to advocate for themselves and their communities because their leadership is essential for positive—and lasting—social change. We engage with individuals to plan and develop their career paths because professional success is critical for economic independence. CPC's Resource Navigators and NYC Test & Trace Corps Reach 1 Million Contacts CPC congratulates our partners in COVID-19 rapid response, NYC Test and Trace Corps, for the milestone of reaching over one million close contacts through the program. CPC's team of Resource Navigators is working hand-in-hand with the NYC Test and Trace Corps to provide assistance if a person has been exposed or tests positive for the virus. CPC Provides Hurricane Ida Relief for Eligible New YorkersCPC joined elected officials and community organizations on September 27 to announce the Hurricane Ida Relief Fund. CPC Joins State Senator Gounardes' ERAP Day of Action On September 7, CPC participated in State Senator Andrew Gounardes' Day of Action to encourage people to sign up for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). Thank you to our staff and partners who handed out information from 7am-7pm. Our Community, Our Stories – CPC Supplies Resources and Guidance to Thrive: Cui Ni DengThe CPC Leadership Council has been reaching out to those who are eager to share how CPC had a positive influence on their lives. Our tenth community story features Cui Ni Deng. An essential worker, Cui Ni Deng is a home care worker who diligently and compassionately cared for her client(s) despite the many unknowns New Yorkers faced in the spring of 2020. CPC Brooklyn Senior Services Joins CaringKind's Alzheimer's Walk 2021On September 21, CPC Brooklyn's Senior Services participated in CaringKind's Annual Alzheimer's Walk to support research for a cure to combat a disease that affects so many older adults. CPC Joins Community Leaders to Call on City Council to Pass Introduction 1867 CPC joined United Neighborhood Houses, New York Immigration Coalition and Human Services Council, alongside Assembly Members Catalina Cruz and Latrice Walker, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, and Council Members Carlos Menchaca, Carlina Rivera, and Ydanis Rodriguez to call on the City Council to pass Introduction 1867 - Our City Our Vote. The legislation supports non-citizen voting and ensures all our community members are represented in our city.
