Celebrating Diversity Art Exhibition

Two Rivers Gallery Thursday, April 5th, 7:30pm

Welcome PG is hosting an art exhibition at the Two Rivers Gallery from April 5th until April 29th. The exhibition includes eight success stories as told by new Canadians, artwork done by the storytellers as a visual expression about their journey, and information panels about the new Celebrating Diversity public artwork that will be installed at the Prince George Airport on May 26th, 2012.

You are invited to our opening night this Thursday, April 5th to enjoy the exhibition to talk with the Welcome PG staff and enjoy some refreshments. We are also sponsoring Family Sundays (with support from the Prince George Community Foundation) for the month of April so you and your family can enjoy free art making activities during our exhibition! Have your picture in the Artwork!

Aiden Callison will be back to take more pictures at UNBC on Saturday, April 28th

Last Saturday's session was such a success with over 100 pictures taken that we are doing it again! The next session will be held on Saturday, April 28th, up at the UNBC Atrium from 10am to 4pm. Have your face included in the Celebrating Diversity Artwork that will be unveiled at the airport on Saturday May 26th, 1:30pm. Please email Kelley at kelley@imss.ca to make an appointment for your photograph. Help us celebrate our local diversity!

If you would like to have a photo of a family member who is no longer with us in the artwork, you can submit an individual head and shoulders photo to celebratingdiversity_pg@hotmail.ca.

Resources for Employers Available

Hiring Skilled New Immigrants: Tools for Prince George Employers

The resources we have been telling you about will be available for distribution by April 20th! The employer kit "Hiring Skilled New Immigrants: Tools for Prince George Employers" and the new immigrant manual "Welcome to Prince George: An Introduction to Work and Life for New Immigrants." These resources are to engage our community by being more welcoming and inclusive and combat the upcoming labour shortage. The employer kit includes information on local demographics and how to successfully hire and retain new immigrants. The new immigrant manual has information about the City of Prince George and what new immigrants can expect in a Canadian workplace. We believe that between these two resources we can build a bridge of mutual understanding which will help both new immigrants with integrating into the community and business owners maintain growth. The resources will be available at IMSS located at 1270 2nd Ave, or available on our website at www.welcomepg.ca.

Free Tool Kit Presentations

Throughout April and May we will be distributing the resources and will present the information to organizations. If you are interested in having us present to your business, email Kelley at kelley@imss.ca. We are including a session specifically for smaller businesses that do not have a HR department or might not have enough room to accommodate us, here at IMSS on Wednesday, April 25th from 10am-11am.
