The AFAO National Gay Men’s HIV Health Promotion Conference 2016 will be held 18-21 April 2016 at the Novotel Manly-Pacific in Sydney.

‘New Challenges, Big Ideas’ 

The conference theme refers to the challenges and opportunities offered by new testing, treatment and prevention technologies.

  • How can HIV organisations tackle the changing HIV prevention and treatment landscape?
  • How are we gearing up for new service models in key areas like HIV testing and PrEP?
  • What work is being done to reach the 2020 targets and how should we measure ourselves against those targets?
  • Just what are the big ideas to re-energise our work and create social change delivering real benefits in our core communities?

 

About the Conference

This biennial conference has been hosted by AFAO for over two decades and continues to be the key event in the HIV community sector calendar. It offers a great opportunity for staff and volunteers of the AIDS councils, PLHIV organisations and public sector to discuss the current challenges facing the HIV sector in 2016 and beyond, and to devise and present innovative approaches in response to these challenges.

The conference is also a unique opportunity to meet other workers from around the country who are engaged in similar work and to build supportive and productive networks.

Abstracts

We are seeking proposals for presentations and workshops in the areas of HIV education, health promotion or policy. We especially welcome abstracts that link to the conference theme of ‘New Challenges, Big Ideas’.

This year’s conference will favour presentations that address the strategic challenges and opportunities of the current environment.

Deadline for abstracts: 5.00pm Wednesday 9 March

Notification of abstracts: Wednesday 23 March.

Registration is online only. Once you have registered the conference staff will check your details and an invoice will be sent to you or your organisation.

Please note:

  • A 10% late registration fee will be applied to all registrations received after Friday 12 March.
  • Registration includes:
    • conference attendance,
    • accommodation from Monday 18 April (if selected) n.b. only delegates from WA or NT may select Sunday accommodation
    • airfare arriving Monday (AFAO member delegates)
    • breakfasts & lunches
    • social dinner function (Tues 19 April).
  • Registration fee includes GST.
  • Subsidised registration rates apply to AFAO and NAPWHA member organisations.
