Student Leaves an Impression at Pitch Night
During Spring Break, Grade 11 student Celine H. participated in Volition Advisors’ Women’s Pitch Night, an evening where entrepreneurs gain practical experience and valuable feedback on their 90-second pitch and presentation in front of a live audience and industry panel. She pitched about “Abroad”, an app and student-led service providing international students and newcomers with the best possible accommodation at a reasonable price by filtering their special requirements. Blown away by her pitch, Celine received second place for her idea, as voted by the audience. Thank you to Mr. Tran for supporting Celine in her pitch!
Celine has been invited to speak at the next Startup Vancouver, Celebrating Young Entrepreneurs event on April 30. It will be shining the spotlight on five or six young innovators, each representing a different high school, post secondary entrepreneurship program or accelerator. Silver Medal at Science Fair
Congratulations to Grade 11 students Natalie L. and Tiara S. on achieving the Silver Medal in the Senior Division of the Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair last Saturday for their project “Food for thought: A Study on Canine Eating Behaviour”. They studied the eating behaviour of dogs in relation to obesity and weight management, collecting data using a self-designed and built photoplethysmogram (which records heart rate) while dogs ate from two different types of bowls (standard vs slow feeder) from a sample size of 20 dogs. Through statistical analysis, they concluded that a slow-feeder dog bowl slows canine eating consumption rate and activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which leads to better digestive system function and healthier weight management.
