Included are a full marathon of 26.2 miles, a half marathon, a memorial 5K, a five-man relay and a children’s marathon.

Register today for OKC's most entertaining relay race

The OKC Hungryman is Oklahoma City’s ultimate eat-then-run relay competition. The second annual 10K event takes place on May 19 at 9 a.m. in the 9th street district, and challenges the savviest runners and fiercest of eaters.

The 10K is divided into four equal legs. Teams of two or four can register - teams of two run twice. Contestants at each leg eat a predetermined portion of food, then run their leg of the race. Once they have completed their leg, they tag their teammate and he/she will eat another portion of food, then run a leg. This pattern continues until the last teammate completes his/her leg of the run. The whole team then meets up, consumes one last portion of food and races as a team across the finish line.

Teams are encouraged to dress up and have fun. Awards will be given for the team that is most creatively dressed. The cost is $200 per team of four and $100 per team of two. In 2011, the race raised nearly $15,000 for Neighborhood Services Organization.

OKC gets “chalked” for a new event

Oklahoma artists are invited to participate in the first “Chalk the Walk” Festival on Saturday, June 16 (Father’s Day weekend) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oklahoma City’s first chalk art event will offer fun events and amateur art competitions using chalk as the medium and pavement as the canvas. The event is hosted by the Parents Assistance Center and will be held in the south parking lot of Bass Pro Shop in Oklahoma City Bricktown.

The festival is open to artists of all ages and experience levels.  Entries will be judged in four categories: Child (Grade 6 and younger), Junior High (Grades 7-9), High school (Grades 10-12), and College/Adult. Artists may collaborate in groups as large as four per entry. The work must be completed using water based, temporary chalk only. No tempera power, oil based media, or permanent fixatives will be allowed.

The cost is $15 per square through May 16, and after $20 after that date.  Artists can register on the Parents Assistance Center website.

“There is not another organization in Oklahoma City that provides exactly the same type and scope of preventative services as Parents Assistance Center and there is not another event like the chalk art festival in the metro area! We are excited to be able to promote our mission of strengthening families to the greater OKC community through this fun, low-cost family event,” said Laura Gamble, Executive Director of Parents Assistance Center.

“We chose Father’s Day weekend for this event because this is an interactive, whimsical activity that the whole family can enjoy,” said Laura Gamble, Executive Director of the Parents Assistance Center.”

Event proceeds will help further the Parents Assistance Center’s mission to strengthen families to prevent child abuse, neglect and other family violence.
