Geothermal bliss | Henge to Henge | Walk with us ... and more No Images? Click here Out and about in IcelandOur new office! We’ve always dreamed of operating Iceland Traveller from a place where we could welcome visitors and clients and show off our Icelandic treasure trove. Although we have loved the garden office, the birds, the waterfall and the pond we were definitely rather inaccessible. Late last year a perfect opportunity arose out of the blue and we are now installed and enjoying working surrounded by our Icelandic maps, photos, woolly elf shoes and pieces of lava. Look out for our forthcoming pop up events! Geothermal blissThere’s nothing quite like the contrast between the sensations of delicious warmth and crisp cold that you experience in a geothermal pool in Iceland. Hot springs are magical; read on for more on how to enjoy some geothermal bliss and more with Julia, Rowena and Kate in March. We’re taking a few days to enjoy good food, time off, some yoga and meditation and plenty of geothermal bliss. Read more about Geothermal energy here. Henge to HengeI have just visited the ‘Henge to Henge,’ exhibition in London’s After Nyne gallery. What a treat! Photographer Gabrielle Motola travelled by motorbike from Stonehenge to the almost unknown Icelandic Henge, via Denmark and the Faroe Islands by land and sea and assembled a wonderful collection of photographs to record the journey. She’s exhibiting more of her Icelandic landscapes in Reykjavik in May, hope to see her there! Gabrielle is an Olympus Ambassador. Local walking groupAn unexpected bonus from our Iceland hike in 2018 is our local walking group. Please join us for relaxed, friendly and informal walks in and around London, Surrey, Hampshire and the South East. Walk with us in 2019We are back on the trail in Iceland by popular demand. This year’s walk is in the stunning Thorsmork Valley, a magnificent glaciated river valley lying alongside the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, beneath which the volcano erupted back in 2010. Joining the hike can be a personal or charity challenge, either way it will be every bit as amazing as our hike in 2018 but in very different landscape. We will do the hot river hike again though as it was such a success. Did you know?Iceland is absolutely about Ice and Fire, but that’s not all. This amazing landscape, its culture and people have so much to offer. Literature from Sagas to modern crime fiction, artisan crafts from yarn to fish leather and glass, fascinating lives of travellers from and to Iceland. Specialist activities such as botany, bird watching, golf and fishing. What are your interests, and would you like to pursue them in Iceland? It will really help us with our plans for future Journeys with Julia. Thank you. ‘ Iceland in December! We swam in hot rivers, rolled in the snow in our swimsuits, cooked salmon in hot springs way off the beaten track. We walked around a vast crater as the sun went down, took a super-jeep into the mountains where there was not a soul in sight. And all in only 4 days with 4 hours sunlight per day. We had private local guides who recounted tales of ghosts and elves, its economic troubles and the surprising benefits of the 2010 ash cloud. And – yes – we saw the northern lights! Thank you Julia for a stunning trip to this incredible country – superbly organised with no detail left unattended. We will definitely go back.’ Gail (UK) December 2018 Chocolate winnersThis month Sheena from London, Hannah from Hook and Diane from Sussex were our winners. It’s the diamond beach that is covered in glassy ice fragments in East Iceland. Congratulations. Our new competition question is here.
