Introducing Bianca Crocker, the presenter for our November workshop on Fundraising

Bianca Crocker  is passionate about creating positive change in the world.

She is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) with over ten years experience in professional writing and communications in the non-profit sector and advertising industry.

She has refined her skills in marketing and fundraising through her work with various organisations; including those supporting sick and disadvantaged youth and children, conservation and environment causes and community health and welfare.

Her career achievements are seriously impressive, and you can read all about them here.

We are absolutely thrilled to have Bianca visiting Tasmania as a guest of ours, and running two workshops - Devonport 10 November and Hobart 12 November.

These sessions are outstanding value, and we are fast approaching capacity for both regions.

As always, Members also receive an extra 20% discount on workshop fees.

Have you secured your place?

This is our most popular event yet, and we strongly advise that you book now by clicking here, to ensure you don't miss out.

We can't wait to learn from Bianca ourselves, and we look forward to seeing you there!

Seniors Week a roaring success

During Seniors Week (12-18 Oct) we held two open office days, one in Hobart and one in Launceston.

We loved meeting the many many visitors we had during those days - thanks to everyone who attended.

It was a great experience for us to share how much we love doing what we do for the volunteer sector, and our staff really enjoyed chatting with people and finding roles for them.

A special shout-out to our Volunteer Referral Officer Christine, who did a record number of face to face interviews in the Hobart office! Thanks Christine!

Special Network Meetings - thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

Thanks to all who attended our Special network meetings around the State.

These sessions were a great opportunity for us to hear about challenges and opportunities volunteer involving organisations are experiencing.

We are still in the process of unpacking all of the feedback and information received, and it may be some months before we have a final priorities statement informed by this feedback.

However, we will be contacting all who attended in the next week or so with some high level summaries, and more information will be shared with everyone via the e-news in November.

International Volunteer Managers' Day 5 November

Managers and Coordinators of volunteers are the power behind Super Hero volunteers.

We have a very special surprise in store for you this coming IVMD! Watch this space!

In the meantime, we'd love to know what you are planning to do to celebrate. Let us know, and if you would like us to attend any of your events, please get in touch

National Conference 2016

Thank you to everyone who applied for the Scholarships to the National Conference.

A shortlist has been sent to the Volunteering Australia Committee, and they will inform us of the results next week.

All applicants will then be contacted and advised of the results.

Amendments to the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act

We recently provided a submission to the Department of Justice on amendments to the Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Act 2013.

We support measures to protect the reduced fee for volunteers needing a Working with Children Check.  However we have recommended that the Department offer a ‘grace’ period if any amendments are made to this legislation. VT knows that the Working with Children Checks have been a big change for many VIOs and volunteers. As such, we suggest that time is needed so that organisations and volunteers can adapt to any changes.

VT will continue to raise awareness amongst the volunteer sector about the Working with Children Checks and the legal requirements for VIOs and volunteers. We hope continued education will minimise risk of misusing volunteer registration fees.

You can read the submission here.

Senate Select Committee on Health

Last month, we also provided comment to the Senate Select Committee on Health, and on the Interim Reports released.

Our statement supports submissions made by TasCOSS and the Social Determinants of Health Advocacy Network. We also highlighted additional perspectives from the volunteer sector on the relationship between volunteering, health promotion and prevention.
