To support these corridors, the LISC Institute has gathered an extensive list of resources and readings in Spotlight on Building the Resilience of Commercial Corridors. The spotlight includes the Commercial District Recovery Guide that LISC developed with support from U.S. Bank in response to Covid-19. A local guide will be in development soon. LISC Phoenix is one of five LISC sites to receive $65,000 that will provide support to a place-based commercial corridor partner as well as grants to small businesses in the corridor and consultant support to develop a local recovery guide. LISC Institute Spotlight: Building the Resilience of Commercial CorridorsDespite recent growth trends, unequal access to economic opportunity is threatening to leave many communities out of increased prosperity, and more vulnerable when recessions or other shocks – like the current Coronavirus outbreak – occur. Our country’s commercial corridors illustrate these disparities. A vibrant corridor provides opportunities for employment and wealth building, and can act as an anchor during difficult times. However, many once-bustling areas were struggling, even before restrictions on communal gatherings were recently enacted in many places. In this Spotlight, we’re highlighting resources and tools to help practitioners build the strength of local commercial districts during peacetime and in times of crisis.
