Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre will be closed for minor works, closing at 6pm Monday 24 December and reopening Monday 31 December. Parklands Library is closed for repairs until April 2019.

Summer reading

The Summertime Reading Challenge runs until Thursday 28 February 2019. It is for kids and adults, just complete challenges and post your completed postcard at your library, or enter online.

Christchurch Photo Hunt

We received 247 submissions in this year's Christchurch Photo Hunt, telling your local stories spanning more than a century. Thank you so much for sharing your memories and contributing to our photographic history. View the winners and highly commended images.

 

What's on

  • First Friday Whānau Fun night in the Library at Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre. Friday 7 December 5.30pm to 6.30pm; (also on Friday 1 February and Friday 1 March).
  • eSports - 2019 CCL Rocket League tournament Wednesdays 9 January, 16 January, and 23 January - knockout tournaments at various libraries, finals at Tūranga. Wednesday 30 January 2pm to 3pm.
  • Canterbury Colours Workshop with artist Celia Wilson (one session for kids, and one for adults). Tūranga. Sunday 13 January.
  • Have a Go Day New Brighton Library. Saturday 26 January 10.30am to 3.30pm.
  • Celebrate Lunar New Year with a range of events from Saturday 9 February to Wednesday 27 February.
  • Te Kerēme, a Ngāi Tahu perspective: A Waitangi presentation at Tūranga. Friday 1 February 6pm.
  • Sustainable Living Series Tūranga, Sunday 10 February.
  • The Great Stash Swap Upper Riccarton Library, Sunday 24 February 11am to 2pm  and Linwood Library at Eastgate, Sunday 3 March 1pm to 3pm.
