Barnard College - Special Evening Update
Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016
Dear Claremont resident:
As you may have seen in the last few minutes, Claremont Avenue has been closed between W. 116th St. and W. 119th Street in anticipation of the crane operator returning to campus this evening to take the crane down, move it onto Claremont and secure it. We expect this work to begin around 9 p.m. and finish in about an hour.
As mentioned in this afternoon’s email, wind conditions earlier today did not necessitate the crane being lowered. However, earlier this evening the forecast showed an increase in wind speeds and the City of New York's Department of Buildings has ordered cranes across the city to come down tonight.
If you have a vehicle
parked along Claremont, you may move it or leave it parked. It will not be in any danger if it remains on the street. However, if you do move your vehicle, you will not be allowed back on Claremont to park as long as the road remains closed. Claremont will remain closed to incoming and thru traffic until further notice.
We will update you sometime tomorrow morning if the crane is going to remain down for the weekend due to the possibility of high winds on Saturday and Sunday, and what closures and parking limitations will be in effect. As always, we appreciate your patience and are dedicated to providing information in a timely manner. The safety of our communities remains of utmost importance to Barnard and we apologize for the inconvenience.
