We recognise that Flinders was established on the lands of the Kaurna nation, with the main Flinders campus located near Warriparinga Welcome to the November edition of the College of Business, Government and Law newsletter. Our lead story this week reminds us that our expansion to the new city campus is now very close. In December and January, we will be familiarising ourselves with our new campus: for example, the College executive team will hold its weekly Monday catch-ups at the city campus, instead of Bedford Park. In early February we will begin teaching there! Our lead photograph above celebrates another highlight from the past month: the success of an undergraduate team of Business students at the AG Business Simulation Championship 2023. The team, led by Dr Rajesh Johnsam, prevailed over a strong field including teams from University of Adelaide, University of Sydney, and UNSW. Congratulations to our students, and to Rajesh for building the challenge into his teaching delivery. Other highlights in this newsletter include a major university award for Dr Stacey Henderson, a breakthrough publication by HDR student Charlie Winter, expert evidence by Professor Vivienne Brand and adjunct research associate Jordan Tutton, a big bump in our social media interactions, and ten new publications from all parts of the College in top journals. Kind regards, Professor Michael Gilding Flinders' new city campus is getting closer! Our opening and orientation activations are in the final stages of refinement. The second CBGL Staff Protected Writing Retreat was held on the 20-22nd September at the Adelaide Hills Convention Centre in Hahndorf. Eleven CBGL academics attended the retreat, a follow-up to the successful inaugural Staff Protected Writing Retreat held in December 2022 and the HDR Writing Retreat held in July 2023. Day 1 launched to a great start with a warm welcome from Convenor Professor Adela McMurray. This was followed by a presentation by the Research Librarians Josephine McGill and Shannon Brown providing insights on open access, the university read and publish scheme and AI in research. From that point on the focus was on writing, with participants settling into quiet time concentrating on their journal papers which were professionally reviewed prior to the retreat. Each participant was allocated a 1-hour session with either Josephine or Shannon to discuss any support or information they required to advance their papers or identify relevant journals for their publication. The Research Librarians provided participants support with setting up their ORCID if they did not have one. Day 1 wrapped up with a team dinner which included an active discussion on publishing with HDR students to enhance the College research culture. On Days 2 and 3 of the retreat the participants focussed on writing, interrupted only by good food and collaboration with colleagues. *Based on notification emailed to CBGL.research@flinders.edu.au from 19 Sep to 20 Oct 2023. The university has contracted an archiving service to assist with grade challenges and student complaints. The service will not have the capability to source missing content. How are students being supported? Students will be provided with a suite of resources to help them download any content they want to keep, which will be communicated through multiple channels.
