At the 2014 Big Apple Awards, LISC New York City honored its funders and community development corporation (CDC) partners, who continue to work tirelessly to return families affected by Hurricane Sandy back in to their homes. Brad Gair, former director of New York City’s Office of Housing Recovery Operations accepted the Emergency Relief Community Partners Award on behalf of funders including the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, the American Red Cross in Greater New York and The Robin Hood Foundation, and a host of deserving CDCs. Michelle Neugebauer, executive director of Cypress Hill Local Development Corporation, also received the Leah Schneider Lifetime Achievement Award.

Denise Scott, the former Managing Director of LISC New York City, was honored at the 2014 Big Apple Awards. Scott, who has been appointed Executive Vice President of Programs for LISC, was hailed as a fearless advocate on behalf of New York City residents and communities. Communities for Healthy Food Launch
A vital, new program, Communities for Healthy Food NYC, was launched February 25th, at the New Settlement Community Center in the Mt. Eden section of the Bronx. Funded by the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund
and managed and executed by Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) NYC, the pilot initiative seeks to improve access to healthy food, increase nutrition education and create jobs in low-income communities. It will be rolling out city-wide with four of LISC NYC's community development corporation partners: West Harlem Group Assistance in West Harlem; Cypress Hills LISC in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn; Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation in Bedford Stuyvesant and New Settlement Apartments in Mount Eden in the Bronx. Looking Out: LISC New York City's Holistic Approach to the Multifamily Weatherization Assistance Program
The spiraling costs of energy and water in New York City threaten the long-term financial viability of quality affordable housing. To combat this challenge, LISC New York City partnered with Enterprise Community Partners to create a holistic approach to undertake energy, water and indoor air quality upgrades in existing affordable housing. This newly published report, showcases the program's energy and water usage and cost saving results, key lessons learned and recommendations for affordable housing intermediaries; energy efficiency programs; and city, state, and federal agencies.

LISC NYC AmeriCorps Members Participate in MLK Day of Service
LISC NYC AmeriCorps members braved the rain, sleet, and snow to make Martin Luther King Day 2014 a day on, not a day off. All across New York City, members participated in an array of events that improved their communities and engaged people in conversations about how to bring about positive change.

Mold Remediation Milestones Thanks to Red Cross Donations
With help from American Red Cross donors, more than 1,900 homes damaged by Superstorm Sandy have had mold remediation completed, and progress continues every day.
