Lyttelton Harbour Wastewater Project

Kia ora from the Lyttelton Harbour Wastewater project team.

There's a lot going on at our different worksites around the harbour and we'll continue this momentum in the lead-up to Christmas.
In early December, we will install new storm water pipes at Diamond Harbour to connect the pump station to the storm water outfall. We will also carry out pressure testing and quality assurance on the pipes at Simeon Quay. There will be a reduced worker presence on site while these tests are being carried out. We will then tidy up the area in preparation for the Christmas break.

Thanks for your continued patience – have a Happy Christmas and New Year.

An update on Simeon Quay

Our crews recently finished building the retaining walls at Simeon Quay and the pedestrian access leading up to Cunningham Terrace. We've continued testing and the pump station is now ready to receive wastewater from other parts of the harbour.

We  have one more critical item to install the pump station - a micro-scrubber. This is a flash name for a machine that removes odour from the pipelines. This station will be fired up once we have the pipeline completed on the Heathcote Valley side.

An update on the Heathcote Valley pipeline

We've now installed the base and chamber to the valve control chamber, an integral part of the Heathcote Valley pipeline. The connecting pipe work is underway and will be completed soon. The electrical connections are also underway so the valve chamber will be able to run off the generator at pump station 15 in Alport Place in the case of a power cut. This means the system will be fully operational even when the power goes out. We have started to disestablish the site offices on the land beside SH74 and will soon be removing the temporary bridge at the end of Scruttons Road. Following this, we will be restoring the site back to its original state.

Port Hills Road reseal on track for summer

Council's road maintenance team have taken over the delivery of the Port Hills Road reseal programme from the Lyttelton Harbour wastewater project team.
These works will be completed early in the New Year, during our summer roading season. We plan to asphalt the carriageway to extend the life of the road, and greatly improve ride quality. We will do this as quickly and efficiently as we possibly can to avoid further disruption to the community, and will distribute start work notices to affected residents before work starts. Until then, we’ll carry out necessary essential repairs to isolated areas as required.
We’re mindful that residents have been waiting some time for the road reseal and thank the community for their patience.
