Registration is now open for the government's Eat Out to Help Out scheme, which will give diners 50% off meals out in August (on Mon, Tues, Weds). Face coverings to be worn in shops from 24 July
In England, from 24 July it will become law to wear a face covering in shops and supermarkets, as well as on public transport. Shops and supermarkets will be expected to encourage compliance with the law and can refuse entry. If necessary the police have the powers to enforce these measures, including through issuing a fine of £100 (halving to £50 if paid within 14 days). Altrincham Covid-19 Information Officers
Outside Table & Chair Licencing
Trafford Council has introduced Covid-19 Information Officers to support local businesses. They will work alongside other Council services and key local partners to provide advice and support directly to businesses in Altrincham. They are funded by the government’s Reopening High Streets Safely initiative, and will support businesses to ensure social distancing measures are maintained during the phased release from lockdown. The BID has been working with Trafford Council and some of the town's hospitality businesses on increasing the outside space available to them. A licence is required to use a public street, road or place for the sale of food and drink or to have tables, chairs or other temporary furniture outside a restaurant or cafe for customers to use whilst enjoying food and drink. New fast tracked government legislation is expected next week. In the meantime, Trafford Council has introduced a single application form. More information can be found here.

Old Market Place Improvements
The BID has funded a series of improvements to the Old Market Place.
Extensive repairs have taken place to the lighting scheme in the tree outside the Orange Tree Pub. New planting has been installed at the base of the tree and the paved part of this area will be deep cleaned in a couple of weeks time. Business Cycling & Walking Group
At the last meeting the group asked the BID to look at a cargo bike trial, time zoned walking maps, quietways signage and possible grants to support more walking and cycling to the town.
