Water Efficiency and Lighting Retrofits in Action at District Partners Meeting

Those who were able to attend the September Partners Meeting got to experience first-hand the impact of a lighting retrofit in a historic structure.  The meeting's host, First Presbyterian Church, is halfway through the conversion of their circa 1950s incandescent bulbs into brand new LED fixtures.  These new fixtures maintain the historic look of those they are replacing and provide twice the luminosity, while only consuming 1/10 of the energy!

Property Partner Allegheny County also shared impressive progress in water efficiency at a number of their facilities, including the county jail.  Water efficiency has not been a strong focus for the district thus far, so we are grateful to Phil La May and Zach Ambrose for inspiring action in this area by demonstrating the triple-bottom-line benefits of these projects.

If you were unable to attend the meeting, please take a moment to review the meeting recap and slide deck.  The next District Partners Meeting will be held on November 12 (one week early due to Greenbuild), so plelase mark your calendars now!

Pittsburgh 2030 District Celebrates 1st Anniversary

Twelve months ago, we were all sitting in the convention center wondering exactly what we had gotten ourselves into...  GBA is happy to report that, one year in, the Pittsburgh 2030 District has established itself as a local and national leader by inspiring the building sector towards energy/water consumption and transportation emission reductions.

With 36 Property Partners representing 100 buildings and over 30 million s.f., the Pittsburgh 2030 District now represents 54% of the total real estate in Downtown Pittsburgh!  In the coming year, we look forward to continuing to grow district participation, finalizing and publishing our baselines, launching a small commercial sector focus, and sharing the progress YOU have made as a community of high-performance buildings.

TEN & USW Announce Partnership at Five Gateway

United Steelworkers (USW) is taking major steps towards reducing energy and water consumption at its Five Gateway Center headquarters thanks to a new partnership with The Efficiency Network (TEN).  This effort, which provides guaranteed energy savings through building improvements, is expected to save USW more than $200,000 annually!

TEN, a next-generation energy efficiency specialist headquartered in Pittsburgh, is also the Title Sponsor of the Pittsburgh 2030 District.  The partnership between TEN and USW underscores the collaborative potential created by the Pittsburgh 2030 District’s community of high-performance buildings.

Part I District Transportation Survey Ready for (Your) Testing

GBA staff is working diligently to finalize the survey that will serve as the primary reporting mechanism for each district building’s transportation metrics.  Part I of that survey is currently in testing mode and we need your feedback.  If you have not already done so, please take the survey and let us know of any difficulties, confusing questions, or other stumbling blocks that you encounter and think would inhibit your tenants/employees from completing it.  With your help, the survey will be ready for public distribution by the end of the year.
