Click here Barnard College Update - Wednesday, April 26, 2017Dear Claremont resident: As we mentioned in last Friday’s update, the crawler crane that Barnard College has been using to build The Milstein Center's superstructure will leave the site this Saturday, April 29th beginning at 8 a.m. While we are hopeful that the crane will be removed from Claremont Avenue on Saturday by 6:30 p.m., we may need Sunday, April 30th as well. This process will be similar to when the crane was assembled last December. Claremont from W. 116th Street to W. 120th Street will be closed to traffic and parking beginning early Saturday morning and will reopen either Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon. Since Claremont will be closed very early Saturday morning and cars will not be permitted to park on either side of the street during the weekend, we recommend that you move your car before midnight Friday as the City will begin towing early Saturday morning. In addition to the street closure, the Barnard campus entrance at W. 119th Street and Claremont will be closed as well. If you need to move between Claremont and Broadway, you will need to cross at either 116th or 120th, but you will be able to walk up and down the west side of Claremont inside the taped area. However, please note that between 8 – 9 a.m. on Saturday, we ask that you limit entering and existing your apartment as the boom comes down onto the street. As was the case during the crane’s assembly, there will be tractor trailers removing the crane's components. The Fire Department will be onsite to ensure safety and there will be representatives from Barnard, Turner Construction and the Department of Buildings on campus to oversee the delivery. Concrete pour scheduled for tomorrow In addition, we plan on pouring concrete for the fifth floor tomorrow (Thursday, April 27) so expect an increase in traffic along Claremont as the concrete trucks come to the site. In addition, we expect the masons will be working into the evening, finishing the concrete and making certain it is level and smooth. We will have tarps covering these areas that should help mask the activity, but we did want to share with you that workers will remain onsite tomorrow during the evening hours. Schedule The schedule continues to be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Questions?
