Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the February 2019 Domestic Tax Paid Estimate. Below find a few key points provided by our Chief Economist, Michael Uhrich:

  • • U.S. domestic beer shipment volume decreased by an estimated 0.4% during February 2019, but is up 0.7% year-to-date.
  • Adverse weather conditions, including below average temperatures and unusually high amounts of precipitation in many parts of the country during February contributed to the month’s volume declines.
  • The negative influence of February’s weather conditions was partially offset by distributors continuing to build FMB inventories (including hard seltzers) in anticipation of consumer demand growth during the coming warmer months to avoid running out of stock.

If you have any questions, please contact Michael at either 202-737-2337 or muhrich@beerinstitute.org.
