Okay, we’ve all heard the jargon about how great Coaching is. But what is it going to do for you and your organisation? How does it really benefit the individual, and also benefit the business as a whole?
What is Coaching?
Our last few newsletters have focused on the value of Coaching in particular situations – staff engagement, retaining key staff and so on. However, maybe it’s time for a refresh on the basics. What is Coaching? And how is it going to benefit me?
Coaching has been described as follows:
"A coach is part advisor, part sounding board, part cheerleader, part manager and part strategist." The Business Journal
“(Coaching is) partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential” ICF Definition
From my point of view, Coaching is about taking the coachee from Point A to Point B. As simple as that. There are many components that go into making that happen as efficiently and as effectively as possible (some simple, some more complex) but the overall aim is always the same – let's support this person to get from Point A to Point B. Benefits to the Individual
So there are obviously some significant benefits to an organisation when their people are Coached. But what’s in it for the individual? Are they going to get any return from investing their valuable time in such a process?
Feedback from our clients clearly shows that the vast majority of employees benefit from undertaking Coaching.
