STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Jennifer Yount, Licensed Medical Aesthetician

Last month, we covered CoolSculpting in Part One of our Body Contouring feature (read Part One here). This non-invasive body contouring treatment s a great way to banish the bulge! Here is a look at Jennifer's experience.

CoolSculpting was one of the treatments I was most excited to try here at Hull Aesthetics.  I had seen some incredible before and after photos and I was excited to experience the same results too.

Although there were a few areas that bothered me the most, it was very helpful to have a full consult to really see the potential of what CoolSculpting could do for me. I understood more about creating a more appealing sculptured physique and not just focusing on one area.

When I first started my treatment I decided to do the back flank area first. I never had this area of fat before I had my child and I was anxious to get rid of it!

When the first applicator was attached, I did feel a strong pinching sensation and then a cooling but that only lasted about 10 minutes. After that, the area was numb and I was able to rest, check email, and listen to music.  When the applicator was removed I felt a mild stinging sensation and then a soreness in the area.

I went about my day as usual but I noticed if I bumped or touched the area it felt sore.  The other thing I noticed was at night when I rested in bed, if I turned on that area it felt sore.  I saw results at about 4 weeks but really noticed at about 6 weeks.

The next area I addressed was the abdomen. This area was more tender and I decided to invest in a light compression garment to keep pressure on the area.  I needed a little  Ibuprofen at times to manage some discomfort but all in all very manageable and NOT surgery!

When I returned to re-treat the areas again my discomfort was greatly minimized.

If CoolSculpting interests you, call us for a complimentary consultation.

NEW TREATMENT FOR THINNING HAIR!

Scalp Micro Pigmentation

By: Randi Saunders, Licensed Medical Aesthetician

I'm excited to be back from my special training to offer a treatment for thinning hair. I have seen so many men and women over the years who come into our office with this complaint. I have listened to them and have seen how stressful it can be. After my training, I really was touched to hear from the patients we worked with and see how happy they were with their results.

Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP) is an advanced procedure where pigment is used to create the idea of a fuller head of hair. This is a new procedure involving tattooing tiny, colored pigments into the hair follicles of the scalp. From a distance it gives the illusion of a just-shaved look or a shadowing in areas that are thinning out. The treatment has no incisions or adhesives, and involves nothing more than mild discomfort. It leaves no scars and is perfectly adaptable for if and when you experience further hair loss, or if your style preferences change. It can be done at any stage of hair loss regardless of age and there are many of colors options.

The pigmentation process will take 2-4 sessions lasting 2-6 hours every four weeks. At each session a shade will be implanted allowing gradual and subtle change. There is some mild pain associated with it but a topical anesthesia is used.

The results are dramatic and offer a great solution for men and women with thinning hair or those who have no hair for hair transplantation or cannot afford hair transplantation. It can also be used to cover up a previous hair transplant scar.

Who is a Candidate?

  • Ideal for women with thinning hair
  • Ideal for men who want a shaven look with the impression of a full head of hair
  • Suitable for those who are too young for a hair transplant
  • Perfect for those who want a high density shaven look
  • Ideal for those who have insufficient donor region to achieve a good hair transplant result
  • Ideal for those who do not want to wear a wig

I've also been able to incorporate the DermaPen and PRP to help stimulate hair growth. The DermaPen stimulates scalp cells and hair follicles. Using growth factors derived from platelet-rich plasma, PRP is applied to the scalp directly into the area where thinning and/or hair loss is observed. Growth factors from platelet rich plasma activates the hair root, improving hair quality.

Getting the Maximum Benefit
Viviscal Professional supplements promote existing hair growth in four stages over a six month period. Many users notice a difference in as little as three months.

Body Contouring: Part Two

In part one, we learned about CoolSculpting and Bioslimming wraps. This month, we focus on VelaShape.

Summer Bodies are Made in the Winter, Part 2

A review of VelaShape by Jennifer Yount, Licensed Medical Aesthetician

Summer is fast approaching and many are wondering what are some non surgical options to get your body in shape for summer.  One body contouring option offered here at Hull Aesthetics is VelaShape.  VelaShape is a non invasive body contouring treatment to help achieve a toned ,contoured and well shaped body.

VelaShape can treat arms, thighs, buttocks, flanks and abdomen.  Most patients see gradual and cumulative results throughout the treatment.

VelaShape technology combines infrared light, bi-polar radio frequency energy and vacuum, which cause deep heating of the fat cells, their surrounding connective tissue and the underlying dermal collagen fibers. This type of efficient heating and vacuum stimulates the growth of new and better collagen and elastin which results in localized reduction in skin laxity, body volume, and an overall improvement in skin structure and texture.

Most patients find VelaShape comfortable and describe the treatment as feeling like a warm deep-tissue massage. The treatment parameters are easily adjusted to ensure a comfortable treatment experience. It is normal to experience a warm sensation for a few hours after your treatment. Some patients report a pinkish appearance at the treatment area that may last a few hours post treatment, and skin may appear pink for several hours.

The most important thing to mention is that maintenance is required to maximize results.  Most people see results in 3 treatments.

Just for the Face: Ulthera

By: Shannon Ceballos, Licensed Medical Aesthetician

Ulthera has been a staple in our office for 5 years for a reason!

One of my favorite areas to treat with Ulthera is the eyebrow area. We all know how important eyebrows are on the face. They shape the face,  and give it symmetry, but they also give away our age! One of the first things to sag on the face is actually the eyebrows! Have you had someone tell you that you look tired? (shame on them) Usually by targeting the eyebrow area, you can fake a week long vacation at the spa! A quick 30 minute appointment for an Ulthera Brow Lift can leave your face looking refreshed and awake. And it lasts for about a year! Call for your complimentary consultation to see if the Ulthera Brow Lift is right for you!

The Different Types of Skin Cancer

By Kendall Key, PA-C

Skin Cancer is an abnormal growth of skin cells. It most often develops on areas of the skin exposed to the sun’s rays. Skin cancer affects people of all colors and races, although those with light skin who sunburn easily have a higher risk.

Actinic Keratoses (AK)-dry, scaly precancerous growths.

  • People who get AKs usually have fair skin.
  • Most people see their first AKs after 40 years of age because AKs tend to develop after years of sun exposure.
  • AKs usually form on the skin that gets lots of sun exposure, such as the head, neck, hands, and forearms.
  • Because an AK can progress to a type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), treatment is important.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)- the most common type

  • BCCs frequently develop in people who have fair skin, yet they can occur in people with darker skin.
  • BCCs look like a flesh-colored, pearl-like bump or a pinkish patch of skin.
  • BCCs develop after years of frequent sun exposure or indoor tanning.
  • BCC are common on the head, neck, and arms, yet can form anywhere on the body, including the chest, abdomen, and legs.
  • Early diagnosis and treatment for BCC is important. BCC can invade the surrounding tissue and grow into the nerves and bones, causing damage and disfigurement.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)-the second most common type

  • People who have light skin are most likely to develop SCC, yet they can develop in darker-skinned people.
  • SCC often looks like a red firm bump, scaly patch, or a sore that heals and then re-opens.
  • SCC tend to form on skin that gets frequent sun exposure, such as the rim of the ear, face, neck, arms, chest, and back. SCC can grow deep in the skin and cause damage and disfigurement. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent this and stop SCC from spreading to other areas of the body.

Melanoma- the deadliest form of skin cancer.

  • Melanoma frequently develops in a mole or suddenly appears as a new dark spot on the skin.
  • Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial.
  • Knowing the ABCDE warning signs of melanoma can help you find an early melanoma.

On May 2nd and May 11th, we will be hosting FREE skin cancer screenings to help identify lesions that you have been concerned or have questions about. Call today to schedule your appointment.

Jennifer has a Hull Lotta Love for SkinMedica's HA5

One of my most recent favorite products is a new from Skinmedica called HA5 Rejuvenating Hydrator.  This product contains 5 different hyaluronic acids that are notorious for creating a more plump, hydrated and youthful complexion.

One of the things I love the most is that it delivers short term and long term hydration.

After the age of 20, our natural ability to hydrate our skin declines. By the age of 50 we have lost as much as 50 percent of our hydration in our skin!  HA5 can truly make a difference in keeping our skin at peak hydration.  This is not a heavy moisturizer but has a silky soothing texture that delivers both immediate and long-term benefits. Some of the hydrators work instantly to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve the appearance of skin texture and roughness.  Others work deeper and are time released to continue to plump and hydrate up to 8 hours!

From someone who tends to have more chronically dry skin, I have loved the results! I really noticed a huge difference after about 4 weeks!  Anyone can benefit from this product! If you are seeking more plump, hydrated skin, HA5 definitely delivers!
