Brain showcasing brain imaging technique of d-Amphetamine and Glutamate

A Brown study has revealed how a brain imaging technique can be used to understand how drugs affect the brain within minutes to hours of being taken. Research was conducted by Tara White, assistant professor of behavioral and sciences, and PhD student Meghan Gonsalves. Read More.

Brown signs MSRA with Social Media Company On Augmented Reality  
Brown Technology Innovations facilitated a master sponsored research agreement (MSRA) with a social media company. It supports Sherief Reda’s research on models for quantifying hardware utilization and power consumption of mobile augmented reality devices. Read more

Patent awards This Month
Brown was awarded three U.S. patents this month, two for research in Dr. Jack Elias’ lab, and one for Stefanie Tellex. Read more

The IACUC Rodent Tumor Policy and Satellite Facility Policy, which now also includes a Satellite Facility SOP, have been updated and converted to the new university policy format. See all IACUC policies and related forms here. 

IACUC Reminder - AVMA Guidelines Updated 
All researchers affected by the updated version of the AVMA guidelines must be in alignment with the 2020 version by October 1, 2020, per the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare. Please contact CARE if you have questions at Care@Brown.edu.

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Training Options for 2020/21
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training is a required for most National Science Foundation (NSF) and many National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants. Brown offers instructional RCR training programs that satisfy NIH and NSF RCR requirements. One such program is the Brown Ethics and Responsible Conduct of Research Education (BEARCORE), and registration for BEARCORE is now open.

The Richard B. Salomon Faculty Research Awards support excellence in scholarly work, funding projects up to $15,000. Proposals (via UFunds) are due by 5 p.m. on 11/10/20. See here for complete guidelines and instructions.

Join the Edge for Scholars Online Grant Writing Workshop, a 12-week guided training starting October 19, giving you skills, structure, and accountability to write an outstanding grant proposal. Registration is free and open until October 18.

OSP Trainings are Going Virtual  
OSP has transitioned many of our training sessions to virtual training videos. These can be a great resource if you’ve just added new staff or need a refresher on any of our standard topics. Watch the available trainings and look for new ones here.

Fall 2020 NSF Grants Conference - going virtual
In lieu of an in-person event, NSF is now planning to hold a Virtual Grants Conference in the November – December timeframe. In the meantime, sign up for updates and view recordings of sessions from last year’s event.
