January 2020 Update

We’ve had a busy winter so far, with finishing up late harvest, and then planning and hosting our Annual Meeting on January 17.

Thank-you to all who were able to attend.

At the LFA Annual Meeting, the Lambton Agricultural Hall of Fame inducted Leonard McNeil, former Mayor of Brooke-Alvinston, and organizer for the 1991 International Plowing Match.

Our guest speakers were Josh and Emma Butler from Croton ON. They operate J&E Meats which they’ve recently opened. They’ve built a store on their farm to help educate consumers and make dollars more local. They also spoke about farm succession, and the importance of talking one-to-one with customers to raise honesty, transparency, and respect.

Also at the Annual meeting, we received updates from the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and the Lambton Farm Safety Association, and introduced a few of the promotional videos that the Lambton Federation have been working on.

Our first meeting as a board is happening on February 10 at 7pm, at which the new Board will undergo orientation, and new committees will be struck.

Any members are welcome to join us for the regular portion of the meeting, scheduled for 7:30.

We will be focusing on communications, the environment, political awareness, scholarships, farm safety, bringing agriculture to the classroom, and bringing other organizations that affect farming in Lambton County together.

If you have any questions or wish to have a Lambton Federation of Agriculture representative attend any meetings, please let us know.

Updates and Requests

One thing that has come to our attention, is that not all of our members are receiving emails from the Ontario Federation of Agriculture. There is a separate signup process for receiving emails from the OFA.

If you know of any member in Lambton County that are not receiving the OFA emails, please forward them the following link and have them fill it out. http://eepurl.com/b_LqXD

Another request (and reminder) has come in from the Sarnia-Lambton Workforce Development Board regarding their 2020 Early Bird EmployerOne Survey.

Their survey is open until January 31, 2020. Participation is confidential. The survey will take 5-15 minutes for most businesses to complete. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VKP7LG2

The SLWDB have now had 186 businesses complete the survey and their goal remains 233.
