Nurturing the next generation: The Government has announced that it will support every school to develop and run its own business through the Enterprise Champions Programme. This is part of a package of four new announcements to help inspire, support and grow new businesses in the UK.

New generation enterprise zones: Four vanguard areas – Nottingham, Liverpool, Manchester and London – have named the sites of their new Enterprise Zones. The areas were hailed by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles and Business Secretary Vince Cable, who announced the launch of a scheme to identify where ten further Enterprise Zones will be created.

Growth

Welsh manufacturing tour: The role of the private sector and manufacturing in growing Britain’s economy is the focus of Vince Cable’s first visit to South Wales where he visited the Tata Steel plant at Port Talbot and stopped off in Bridgend, the global centre of Ford’s petrol engine production.

Skills

New skills to boost job prospects: Jobseekers will be given training to gain new skills, but will face having their benefits stopped if they refuse the offer of help, Employment Minister Chris Grayling and Skills Minister John Hayes have announced.
