Web Filtering Update With the DfE statutory guidance and Prevent Duty in place, there are now more challenging obligations on schools in relation to online safety than ever before. The obligations state that whilst schools need to be careful to provide a safe environment, they must also ensure that over blocking does not lead to unreasonable restrictions as to what children can be taught, with regards to online teaching and safeguarding. We are pleased to report the Web Filtering service provided by Schools Broadband is DfE compliant. We should remind you however that schools also have an obligation to view proactively the Suspicious Search reports as well as the Web Activity reports. We believe that some schools are not implementing best practice around these two policies. The Schools Broadband Lightspeed Systems Web Filter has a number of different tools to assist schools in complying with the statutory requirements. Features such as Suspicious Search Queries for example are designed to give you flexible and granular filtering for monitoring and reporting. To ensure you are deploying best practice when it comes to using our systems as part of your school’s online safety policy, your web filters must be set accordingly. If you need a reminder as to how to configure your filter settings, we have a series of videos to help. Please click below to access the training videos. Please click here for an overview of the Prevent Duty in relation to your web filtering obligations. £100 Voucher Winners Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter our BETT competition, we very much enjoyed looking at all the photos taken with our characters! Our Schools Broadband representatives, Craig and Mil, were delighted to make a personal visit to each school to award them with their £100 Amazon gift vouchers. Well done guys! From 15 June 2017 new mobile legislation will be introduced that will affect how mobile users will be billed for their usage whilst abroad in Europe. Mobile Roam Like at Home (RLAH) From June 15th you will be able to use your devices within EU countries based on rates and rules almost identical to that which you receive on your home network. That means there will be no surcharges, or increased rates for users when roaming in the EU. The legislation is intended to cover people who travel periodically in the EU and fair usage policies will apply. The Regulations are not intended to cover permanent roaming.
