Final ELD rule is on its way!

Joe DeLorenzo, director of FMCSAs office of enforcement and compliance has indicated the final ELD ruling can be anticipated for some time this year.

Citing ELD devices will improve safety and the recording of drivers’ hours and cut down on citations that result from paperwork errors, Joe DeLorenzo indicated the ELD rule will also provide uniformity across devices too. He also stressed the need for carriers to get to know the devices they are using now and to make sure drivers are well-versed in how to use them.

Webtech Driver Center - New Functionality

WDC v5.2 is now available! This is a free download for all Webtech Driver Center devices (MDT3500, MDT3200 and selected consumer Android Tablets). To update to the latest version of WDC, follow instructions on Webtech U (available through your portal login).
Updating to WDC v5.2 gives you:

  • Text to Speech/Voice Recognition – Spoken-word incoming messages and voice command controls improve driver productivity and safety, allowing compliance with hands-free laws (requires an MDT3500, with Audio Kit).
  • Enhanced Hours of Service Screen – Simplified in-motion display minimizes driver distractions with easy access to advanced features, and a new detail screen provides comprehensive HOS information.
  • Compliance Update – HOS Rule Changes – Addresses new regulations covering the 34-hour restart rule. Click here for more information.

Did you know?

The Webtech Fleet Center Vehicle Status Pane automatically provides a snapshot of your key fleet performance and system issues.

At a glance you can determine if a vehicle is moving or stopped and what direction the vehicle is heading. The columns displayed are also completely user-configurable. As are the status icons (Set your own time reporting ranges, and change the icon colors.)

Insight into the Driver Shortage through the Study of Demographics

A recent blog post on the Heavy Duty Trucking site presented a fascinating read on how today’s driver shortage was predicted over 20 years ago based on the study of demographics. The post hypothesizes that demographics is also the key to solving this same shortage.

Referencing the book “Boom, Bust & Echo” by David K. Foot, the article states that by following a generation’s natural aging progressions, preferences, habits and societal pressures allows for accurate predictions into this group’s future activities right down to the types of jobs that will appeal, as well as those jobs that won’t.
