The SandRidge Santa Run is this weekend! Whether you're a 5k runner, or just want to treat the kids to a fun time, this Saturday's SandRidge Santa Run offers something for everyone. The annual SandRidge Santa Run will take place this Saturday, Dec. 10 and will will feature awards to the top finishers and a holiday costume contest with cash prizes. Proceeds benefit the City Rescue Mission. Make this family event part of your holiday traditions. Devon events a hit at Downtown in December The 10th annual Downtown in December, presented by Devon has seen unprcedented attendance over the past few weeks as families from all over the region come downtown to enjoy new and old holiday events. This year, two of the most popular attractions are the Devon Ice Rink and Devon's Saturdays with Santa, both of which take place in the beautifully renovated Myriad Gardens. Over 150 children came to the Crystal Bridge for the first week of Devon's Saturdays with Santa to enjoy free cookies and crafts, write letters to the North Pole and visit with the Big Man himself. This is the newest addition to the Downtown in December lineup and is sure to be a family favorite for years to come. The Devon Ice Rink continues to be Oklahoma City's most popular holiday event. This is an exciting year because the rink has found a new permanent home in the Myriad Gardens. The new location provides a perfect opportunity to skate in the heart of the city and enjoy the gardens and the holiday light display. “Downtown Oklahoma City has been our home for more than 40 years,” said Wendi Schuur, Devon’s director of public and community affairs. “Many Oklahomans have incorporated these events into their family’s holiday tradition, and we are delighted to work with Downtown OKC Inc. to provide even more opportunities for families to come downtown and experience a festive atmosphere and abundant activities.” The Devon Ice Rink and Devon's Saturdays with Santa are 2 of over twenty Downtown in December events. OKC hosts Ramada All-College Baksetball Classic The 76th Ramada All-College Basketball Classic will be held Saturday, Dec. 17 at the newly-renovated Chesapeake Energy Arena. The doubleheader will feature Oklahoma against Houston and Oklahoma State vs. New Mexico. The classic will be accompanied by the return of the Kid's Basketball Adventure, which will take place in the Cox Business Service Convention Center on Dec. 18. This is a free, interactive basketball family festival that will include food, entertainment, basketball clinics and more. Art Moves partners with deadCENTER Film Festival The pairing of one of Oklahoma City’s finest festivals with the new free daily arts initiative by the Arts Council of Oklahoma City will offer a lunchtime treat for downtown workers and visitors. Art Moves, presented by Devon, now in its third month, is pairing with deadCENTER Film Festival to showcase some of its best short films on Monday, Dec. 12 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Norick Downtown Library auditorium on the 4th floor. The free event is open to the public. Food and drinks are allowed. “We are so excited to be partnering with the fine folks at deadCENTER,” said Angela Hodgkinson, Art Moves Director for the Arts Council of Oklahoma City. “We’re offering, for the first time at Art Moves, one of the most loved art forms – film. The Skirvin hosts festive holiday celebrations Holiday traditions are in full swing at the Skirvin Hilton in Downtown OKC. Wayne McEvilly featured at Art Moves next week Pianist Wayne McEvilly will perform Mostly Beethoven at the Oklahoma City Art Museum on Dec. 13 at noon. The performance is free, courtesy of Art Moves. Art Moves, presented by Devon, is an Arts Council initiative that provides free, daily lunchtime arts events to the downtown area. They work with various locations like the Downtown Library, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, and the newly-renovated Myriad Gardens to host these events. Art Moves, Presented by Devon, consists of performances (think quartets, storytellers, and ballet troupes), artist demonstrations (from all mediums), short film selections, and artist/curator discussions. AIA Oklahoma honors TAP Architecture TAP Architecture's design for Homeless Alliance WestTown Campus received an Honor Award for Restoration Rehabilitation and Adaptive Reuse from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Oklahoma Chapter at their awards banquet on Nov. 3. TAP's design transformed two neglected light industrial metal buildings into a sparkling, inviting and respectful campus where homeless and near-homeless families in Oklahoma City receive food, day shelter and assistance from multiple social service agencies. TAP's design is one that is likely to become a national model for homelss social services.
