CPC and Undo Poverty: Flushing Partners Launch “Poverty: It’s Not What You Think” Advertising CampaignOn October 3rd, CPC partnered with Queens-based community groups to launch an advertising campaign in Flushing to break long-standing stigmas surrounding poverty. The campaign, named "Poverty: It's Not What You Think", is sponsored by Robin Hood and created by F.Y. Eye and a collective of community groups called Undo Poverty: Flushing. Members of the group include CPC, Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE), The Child Center of NY, MinKwon Center for Community Action, Queens Public Library (QPL), and RIVER FUND.EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong.
CPC Rallies to Demand On-time Payment to Early Childhood ProvidersOn October 19th, more than 60 CPC staff and program participants gathered on the steps of City Hall to join Council Members and allies to urge DOE to pay early childhood providers on time. CPC Queens Early Childhood Center Director Lois Lee also testified before the City Council's Committee on Education about the negative consequences of the city's late payments to early childhood programs.
CPC Brooklyn Community Services Hosts Voter Education Workshop On October 25th, CPC Brooklyn Community Services collaborated with the Racial Justice Commission (RJC) to organize a voter education workshop. Our team emphasized the importance of voting and having a say in choosing the elected leaders whose actions affect our lives, families, and communities. CPC Open Door Senior Center Welcomes Volunteers from Guardian On October 4th, CPC Open Door Senior Center welcomed 17 volunteers from Guardian's Asian Inclusion and Diversity Alliance Employee Resource Group to serve lunch to order adults. The luncheon was sponsored by Guardian.
CPC Open Door Senior Center Celebrates 50th Anniversary On October 7th, CPC Open Door Senior Center commemorated its 50th anniversary with a dinner celebration in Chinatown. New York City Mayor Eric Adams attended the ceremony, recognizing the center's long and rich history and the essential services provided to older adults, especially during the pandemic.
CPC Queens Services for Families with Special Needs Receives Donation from Greater Hudson Financial On October 7th, CPC received $10,000 from Greater Hudson Financial. The funds will support CPC's services for families with special needs and people with developmental disabilities, helping them reach their educational, employment, community, and family goals.
Two-Piano Benefit Recital for CPC On October 22nd, CPC Board Member Christopher Kuo and his mother Michelle Chen Kuo performed a two-piano benefit recital at Carnegie Hall to support CPC's services to immigrant and low-income communities in New York City. CPC Partners with Gotham Organization for Affordable Norfolk Senior Apartments CPC has partnered with Gotham Organization on a new senior affordable building in the Lower East Side. The City of New York has officially opened the lottery for the affordable housing application for the Norfolk Senior Apartments. All applications must be submitted online or postmarked by the deadline of December 5th, 2022.
CPC Speaks at the NYCETC Conference On October 13th, Kevin Tse, CPC Deputy Director of Strategic Initiatives & Development, spoke at the NYC Employment & Training Coalition (NYCETC) Conference. He discussed the findings of the NYC Workforce Landscape report and emphasized the need for additional workforce funding from the city to support job placement and training programs.

CPC Joins USDOT's Roundtable on Transit Safety On October 24th, CPC Chief of Staff Alice Wong participated in a roundtable discussion with US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, representatives from the US Department of Transportation, and community leaders about public transportation experiences in the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. They discussed topics such as improving our transit systems to ensure that everyone feels safe using them.
