Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

As we near the end of 2011, we would like to say Thanks for all of your help you have given us. We have had such a successful year. We grew from just one employee in Nicaragua to now a staff of five full-time Nicaraguans promoting and implementing technologies for people that really need it. We would not have been able to do this without your support!!

Coffee Toaster Prototype

Main Content Inline Small

This past month the Nicaraguan Team has successfully installed a prototype coffee toaster. Currently in the rural community of Ocotal, El Sauce, farmers of a cooperative toast their own organic coffee over an open flame stove with varying standards of consistency. Due to the poor toasting quality the cooperative is unable to sell a large amount of coffee to the public. The engineers of EOS have developed a large scale coffee toaster prototype utilizing a 55 gal metal drum which is suspended above an enclosed and controlled combustion chamber. The barrel has baffles welded on the inside to evenly mix the beans to create a consistently toasted product. The farmers will now be able to sell their coffee to the public in nearby towns. Farmers will also be able to save a lot of their own time that was spent toasting the coffee individually.

EOS has a set of core technologies that it promotes. All of these technologies have gone through a rigorous test of making sure it is appropriate for its intended audience, ie. rural Nicaraguan families. This coffee toaster is just a prototype and our technicians will visit the community numerous times to evaluate the technology and the coffee quality and ensure it is creating a positive impact on the people. If everything goes well we may proceed to add this to our core technologies and promote this on a wider scale. More to come on this.  Check out our Facebook page for more photos!
