The UK-India Tech Summit took place in early November in Delhi, India as part of the 2016 UK-India year of Education, Research and Innovation.
Five summits covered technology, innovation, intellectual property, higher education and design and emphasised the importance of building strong links in science and technology between the two countries. It was UK Prime Minister Teresa May’s first visit to India, where she joined Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the event. UK MPs Liam Fox, Greg Hands and Jo Johnson also supported the UK delegation.
In support of the Tech Summit, the British Council managed a UK higher education delegation of 35 vice chancellors and pro-vice chancellors, and hosted an event celebrating links formed with the two departments in the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology through the Newton-Bhabha Fund.
Talks from notable figures included Dr. Vijay Raghavan and Professor Jeremy Bradshaw, and a panel discussion between Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Professor Robin Franklin and Professor Rupamanjari Ghosh on the importance of International Research collaborations.
