JUNE 2014

Update for Scottish Schools & Communities

Free Cooking Skills Snippets Films

Our expert team of food teachers developed Skills Snippets to make teaching cooking skills easier for teachers and other cooking leaders. We currently have eight Skills Snippets films to choose from and they can be accessed free at www.focusonfood.org

If you’re a teacher or cooking leader, watch the films a few times before teaching a skill. You could also show them in your lessons with or without the sound. It’s a good idea to use the films together with our Skill Up, Start Cooking pack, which contains 32 recipes and much more. You can claim one of 200 free Skill Up, Start Cooking packs by filling in this form and returning it to us.*

COMMONWEALTH RESOURCES

We have produced some handy teaching notes to help you link into the commonwealth games and eating for sporting success. This includes some suggestions of recipes for different age groups that you can access on our COOK SCHOOL website. Click here to look at our teaching notes.

*first 200 applicants will recieve a free Skill Up, Start Cooking pack. Only one pack per school/group. You must provide address details and complete a registration form when you recieve your pack. Packs will be issued in time for the start of the autumn term.

follow up visits

Lois, our School & Community Advisor has been working with a number of schools this year that have previously hosted a Cooking Bus visit. Her role is to help these schools & communities continue, develop and sustain practical cooking and food education; this all adds to legacy of the Healthier Scotland Cooking Bus.

You can read what Lois has been up to recently in her visits by clicking here.

If your school or community would like further support with developing practical cooking or food education following a Cooking Bus visit, email Lois at lois@focusonfood.org or phone her on 07767 112548.
