In this month’s edition we review a flat month in markets in the wake of geopolitical tensions, consider if a SMSF could be right for you and discuss the often misunderstood debt market.

			Market Wrap Equity markets both locally and abroad traded sideways during the month following a mixed reporting season in Australia and growing tensions in Korea. These tensions saw fixed interest markets bounce while the Australian dollar continued its strength against the weak Greenback.



			Is a SMSF right for you? As advisers we are often asked by clients if they should be considering a SMSF. And it’s no wonder given SMSF’s are the fastest growing segment of the superannuation market with over 590,000 funds across Australia. However just because everyone else is doing it, should you? Predictably the answer is ‘it depends” since although SMSF have some advantages over alternative structures, these are only relevant when certain features are used.


	Debt markets? For many Debt Securities are a ‘great unknown’ of the investment world. We’ve all heard about them but many fail to understand what makes them tick. Investors typically assign these assets to the defensive (low risk) part of their portfolio however, they’re not without risks.
