Editor's note

Though France’s president-elect is a relative newcomer to politics, he actually made his name on the world stage, appearing regularly in American media outlets since 2015. Emmanuel Macron has also shown that he has a diplomatic bent, raising the thorny subject of France’s colonial past and opening dialogue with African would-be partners.

All of this suggests that revitalising French foreign policy may well be a key focus of his administration, writes Rinna Kullaa, giving a much-needed boost to France’s reputation as a world leader.
