Thank you for saving the Mokihinui River
Forest & Bird would like to thank you and all our other supporters for helping save the West Coast’s wild and scenic Mokihinui River.
Meridian Energy today announced that it is abandoning its plans to build an 80-metre-high dam and flood 330 hectares of pristine forest. Forest & Bird believes this is a great victory for conservation, and a courageous decision by Meridian.
The Mokihinui is home to endangered blue ducks, eels and native fish, and its forests support many native animals, including kiwi and bats.
Forest & Bird believes it is now time to properly protect the Mokihinui River by adding it to neighbouring Kahurangi National Park.
Thank you for your donations, your time and for backing Forest & Bird. Your support has genuinely made a difference to saving a wonderful, wild river.
This is what standing up for nature is all about.
Best wishes,
Forest & Bird Top of the South Field Officer Debs Martin
