Contemporary musicians in several African countries don’t only express their political views in their music, they also get deeply involved in trying to change the societies they live in. Zachariah Mampilly looks at the role played by the Senegalese activist-rappers Keur Gui.

And as Oxfam faces up to allegations that some of its workers in Haiti and elsewhere have been implicated in prostitution and sexual abuse, Rosa Freedman explains why the aid sector is struggling to stamp out this problem. Until NGOs set up the structures and processes to stop abuse in the field, she says, we can expect these scandals to keep surfacing.
