Dear Cool the Earth Community,
Our Spring
From Egypt to Syria to Yemen, there has been a wave of demonstrations and protests forever shifting the region. It’s the Arab Spring, fueled by the young and the old, who simply have had enough. They found a way to make their collective voice matter and the world reacted.
I yearn for our American Spring, a time in which we can bring about change for the sake of future generations. There are hopeful signs, from organized rallies to impromptu protests. There are people protesting the Keystone Pipeline, preferring to be arrested in front of the White House rather than give in. Across the nation there are tens of thousands gathering together to urge action to advance climate legislation. And, we have the Occupy Wall Street protesters who are setting a new course.
I’d say it’s time for our American Spring. It’s time for us to think about what really matters. How do we sustain seven billion people on this one planet? How do we ensure that this earth is offering a hospitable home to our kids and grandkids?
We know the facts, but this alone will surely not bring about change. Change will come from the everyday citizen who is awakened to reality that she is the face of change. She will realize that when she cares, it will make a difference.
Join us in an American Spring as we educate kids, inspire parents and engage communities. It’s our time, now.

Mary Closser, a new team leader for Parley’s Park Elementary School, Park City Utah and both her children, Estin and Clay participated in the program last year which had great success in taking over 1700 actions in its first year. Learning about the program from a friend in Marin County, Mary felt "it would fit well with my son's Boulder, CO school. A month later we learned of our move to Park City, UT. The (new) school had a green team, the environment felt right so I proposed it to the PTA and received a warm response.”
With an accomplished resume in environmental related work and a good understanding of the importance of making energy saving changes today, Mary said “I love a good challenge. The kids are easy to teach this stuff, it's the parents who have the thicker skin. They'll welcome eco-ideas more, I feel, if they come from their own kids over some tree-hugger any day.”
Mary said she “decided to become a leader because everything about the environment, I'm learning, is so sensible and I will find any mechanism I can to teach what I'm learning to others.”
Her words of advice to all the other team leaders and parents, “Stay positive and know it's all about baby steps.”
TIP OF THE MONTH
Go Vote: Tuesday November 8th
In his Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln called democracy “government of the people, by the people and for the people.” It means that we are not here to serve our government, but that our government is here to serve us — and we have the right to decide who will represent us and how we want to be represented. It means that we have one of the greatest rights any free people can have: the right to vote, Your vote is your voice to make the changes we need to protect the planet for our future generations.
We're thankful to our many partners and supporters who have enabled Cool the Earth to grow to reach the milestone of reducing over 100 million lbs of carbon this year.
