There's still time for houseboat hols with Kuhnle-Tours

GermanyisWunderbar

It's that Indian summer time of year. Peace has descended on the Mecklenburg and Brandenburg lakes. Nature is on full activity mode, painted in deep rich colours. There's still sun in the sky, and there are also migrating cranes, assembling to fly south. And in addition to all that, there's more flexibility in boat bookings, as well as the chance of 10 percent savings on last-minute departures.

There's still time for a slice (or two) of cake in Weimar

GermanyisWunderbar

Beat this, Great British Bake Off: In Weimar's Rose Bakery,  Stephan and his wife Katharina offer 14 different types of traybakes on weekdays, 27 on weekends and their repertoire covers a whopping 135 varieties altogether. The king and queen of traybakes (on Herderplatz in the centre of town) use a yeast dough or short pastry, depending on the topping. The famous Bienenstich with caramelised almonds and filled with vanilla custard, or bakes with apples and plums, are favourites. If you can't choose, there are bite-sized portions so you can try as many varieties as your stomach allows.

There's still time to see cultural Regensburg at its best

GermanyisWunderbar

When the days get noticeably shorter in autumn, many cities develop a very special atmosphere. Regensburg's medieval Old Town (guided tour pictured left) is a case in point. This UNESCO-listed city with a plethora of ancient buildings also has a raft of galleries and museums. The Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie for example, showcases art from the German-influenced regions in eastern Europe. Its exhibition (23 October - 26 February 2017) pays tribute to Romanian-born Daniel Spoerri. While the Regensburger Tanztagen (5 - 28 November) brings national and international dance companies to the cathedral city.
