AMBA accreditation for our MBAWe are making steady progress towards compiling the relevant data for the AMBA assessors’ report for our MBA. Please make sure you continue to respond to emails from Anna Mooney and Jo Earl so we can maintain momentum. Promoting business research at the Disability, Ageing and Lifestyle ExpoAnna Mooney and Jo Earl attended the Disability, Ageing and Lifestyle Expo to promote their research in retirement planning. It was a great opportunity to meet with potential participants and make new relevant industry connections. Research newsThe Australian Centre for Community Services Research (ACCSR) just won its 28th grant, this time for an investigation into the experience and needs of charitable food service recipients in South Australia. Funded by the Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (SA) & SA Health for $37400, this income brings ACCSR’s total grant funding to $2,103,984 since it commenced operations in 2014. 1st Chief Investigator Ian Goodwin-Smith collaborated with CIs J. Coveney & S. Booth to augment their existing inter-college research program with this project. The study provides an opportunity to work with marginalised South Australian communities to shape the social policy decisions which affect their lives. Recent College workshops held by Professor Sue Starfield, to increase awareness of the roles of the editor and reviewers in the publication process and provide an opportunity for peer feedback, were a great success. The workshop for PhD students and supervisors was attended by 70 people from across the university. A ‘Bring Out Your Dead’ session was organised between academics in Law and Government. Twelve staff participated in lively (and potentially successful) attempts to breathe life into five papers. Expressions of interest are now open for 2018 Research Mentoring Scheme. This initiative is a strategy to support our researchers who are early-career and those transitioning to mid-career status, defined as 1 – 10 years post-PhD conferral. Each mentee is assisted in developing and maintaining a one-on-one mentoring partnership with a mentor, who is a senior Flinders academic and matched based on a mentee’s requirements. Scheme coordinator, Dr Marina Delpin, is available to discuss any questions that you may have about the mentoring scheme and can be contacted on x13873 or marina.delpin@flinders.edu.au. The eligibility criteria and application documents to participate as a mentee or mentor are available via RePortal, which can be accessed by Flinders staff via the Okta login page, or directly from Marina. Expressions of interest are due by Monday 27 November 2017. The College has also been running a series of workshops for potential ARC grant applicants. Presenters so far include Professor Mark Halsey, Dr Russell Brewer, Professor Mike Nicholls, Associate Professor David Bright, and Professor Andrew Goldsmith. Last Friday Maya Roberts from Research Development and Support presented on budgets in ARC projects, with a further presentation on 3 November at 11am, Room 4.42 EDUC on the project summary. Staff who are intending to submit an ARC application (Discovery or DECRA) in February 2018 are reminded to please register with Research Development and Support (Maya Roberts) and inform College Dean (Research) Gerry Redmond, as additional personalised support may be available. Finally, there will be a research grant and conference funding round in mid 2018. Full details available at a later date.
