North Fulton Community Improvement District: IMPACT

Significant Grant Made to Educate Voters on Regional Transportation Funding

The North Fulton CID committed $250,000 to fund regional education efforts around the Transportation Investment Act in metro Atlanta. The North Fulton CID was the first in the region to commit a full $250,000 to this effort to educate local voters on the one-percent sales tax for transportation. Other CIDs also are supporting the education effort in advance of the July 2012 referendum. Should the tax pass in a region, all revenue collected there would stay in that region. Local governments would share 15 percent of the revenues to be spent on any projects they choose. The other 85 percent will be used to fund the list of projects created by each region’s transportation roundtable. Read more online >

300 Attend Metro Atlanta Northern Crescent Transit Summit

On Wednesday, June 8, about 300 representatives of business and government sectors met to discuss the future of a regional light rail system that would link the northern Atlanta suburbs. It’s the first time the northern suburbs have collectively come together in this way to discuss rail projects and their economic impact for the region. The proposed Metro Atlanta Northern Crescent Transit would connect with existing MARTA rail lines and extend into Cobb, North Fulton and Gwinnett counties. A survey conducted by McKinsey & Company in 2008 found that by investing $26–$46 billion in transportation infrastructure, including light rail, Georgia could increase its gross domestic product by $114 billion and create 230,000 jobs over the next 20 years.
